We flew into Tegel airport late and grabbed a taxi that cost €22 which I thought was a decent price. Our room was a standard Mercure size and a similar layout, with the exception of the bathroom, which had a window into the bedroom and no blind, so you need to be comfortable with your roommate (although our friends did have a blind in their room).
We liked the bar at the hotel, although it wasn't that cheap and there are plenty of bars in Berlin to choose from! The staff were all friendly and breakfast was very good - we had managed to get breakfast for about £5pp per day included with our room rate.
Unfortunately our Monday morning lie in was disturbed by refurbishments that started early. Also, for some unknown reason our room wasn't cleaned on Sunday, although as we were only staying two nights that really wasn't a major problem.
The hotel is well located, within walking distance of several key areas and the underground is also at the end of the street.
This Mercure is good, but you are spoilt for choice of hotels in Berlin, so unless this hotel is offering you an amazing rate, or it's very close to where you want to be, I would prefer to stay elsewhere.
Thank you for your valuation here on tripadvisor. I am happy that you liked your overall stay in Berlin. I want to apologize for the caused inconvenience due to the construction works in the hotel. All public areas are now renovated. So there will be no noise anymore. Maybe we see us again at the Mercure Hotel Berlin City.
Basic rooms and quite small but the beds where comfortable. Close to a subway stop. Two single beds pushed together like most in Europe. Weak shower head. Was not noisy even though it was on a main road. Tv had english speaking channels. Always a plus.
Nice hotel at good location. Service was at very good level during all our stay expect once when house keeping knocked our door first time before 09.00am and we woke up.
We had nice privilege room, which was though quite small. Bed was very comfy.
One weird thing was window between toilet and bed.
Breakfast was superb. One of the best if not even the very best of all Mercure hotels I've stayed in. They had e.g. chiaporridge, quarkepudding, quite much local specialities as extra dishes. We were so happy with the breakfast.
Hotel bar has good selection of German wines in reasonable price. The bar was also surprisingly cozy for Mercure's hotel bar.
What the hotel lacks in glamour is more than made up for by basic amenities and proximity to desirable locations. The tram stop directly outside means quick, simple access to most local attractions. You can get off a train in chaotic Berlin central station, catch a tram, and be at the Mercure front desk in under 10 minutes. The small bar area has a decent selection and includes one of the best local beers (not widely available) to be found on tap. Renting a bike is highly recommended unless you're not used to riding in Europe and bothered by nearby traffic.
This was one of the more expensive hotels to choose from in a deal, chosen in the hope it would give a luxury(ish) break. Thoroughly disappointed with the basic room and amenities. The cupboard in our room was broken and the air conditioning didn't work. The wifi too was terrible. Staff were friendly enough but not very helpful when we had a problem with the safe in our room and needed help quickly. I've had much better rooms at cheaper hotels and definitely wish I had chosen a different hotel to reside in. The only good thing with this hotel is it's access to public transport - you can get around easily. I definitely do not reccommend this hotel as it was just so disappointing for the money.
