This is mostly a conference hotel and it is made to serve you while you are busy attending to business. If you are on vacation, this is certainly not the place to choose!

I was there because my partner had a conference for three days. As I was not part of the conference I had to pay 90 Euros for three nights, which was a good deal. Breakfast was included, which was a variety of German/Western type of food, but mostly tasteless if you prefer more exotic food.

Rooms are very small and you cannot turn around inside. Other than the bed and the table, there aren't any other conveniences. Shower is very small and water leaks a bit on to the floor making bit of a mess. There is, however, daily room service and they are good about cleaning it up for you. There was free Wi-Fi, which was a plus.

Unless you are part of the conference, you pay $15 for lunch and $12 for dinner. It is usually a buffet. There is also a small snack bar to buy fruits, soups, salads, and sandwiches. Drinks can be bought at the counter and there is also a bar where you can get a lot of drinks.

There are plenty of places to sit at the dining area and outdoors. These is also a large park close by that you can do daily exercises if you wish. There are two restaurants ( Tao bar & restaurant (Asian fusion-type) and Il Duetto (Italian) within walking distance. There is also a nice beer garden and a restaurant in the park mentioned above.

There is bus transportation and subway close by. You can also rent a bike at the institute. So, I would conclude that if you are on business, this hotel will serve you well.

My experience of this hotel was mixed. This is a conference hotel and it has a utilitarian ambiance. The room rate does not reflect the room quality - rooms are very basic and lack charm; walls are thin. The breakfast provided has lots of options - breads, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, cold cuts and cheese - but the coffee was of very poor quality. The pond and garden out the back are nicely laid out, probably a pleasant place to sit out in the summer. The hotel is located a short walk from the U Bahn station, making it convenient to take the 15 min. train ride into Bonn. Trains arrive every 10 mins. or so. The hotel is located in a residential/business area and there are few options for restaurants in the immediate area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator.

More of a hostel roomwise but the cost is in the same class as a hotel -- the value equation's a mess. Their internet policy is problematic to say the least. 200 MB per hour but got cut off midway in my simulations. Some of the conference rooms had wifi blackspots too. Only local DTV available with no alternatives. Payment for meals and drinks involved running circuits between the dining hall, reception, back to fetch cash, bar and then dining hall again. All together, would only recommend it for those who plan to crash and head out early morning.

Room Tip: tough one, avoid hot seasons -- no a/c

It was early February, the end of winter. Me and my colleagues went to Germany for a workshop at Bonn.

We stayed at Gustav-Stresemann-Institut for two nights. Though the space is limited in the room, it had everything u need to spend a night comfortably. mine one was a single room with a comfortable bed, a writing table, closet and a TV. Bathroom was spacious enough and clean.

Staff was friendly. Good meals the hotel had. Free wifi will not make u missing home :-) we were able to have some printouts for a very low cost.

If you are travelling for business/ conference purpose this is an ideal place to stay. No shopping malls around (according to my knowledge). Metro station is nearby which will allow u for a trip to city if u wish to shop.

Nice and tidy place to stay for two nights.

Agree with the last reviewer, we also found the surroundings to be quite lovely and peaceful. Enjoyed sitting outside having a drink or eating a meal.. Little pond and greenery made it very pleasant. Inside was also very pleasant and lots of space to sit. Staff were very helpful... enjoyed the person at the bar! We stayed at the Institute for seven days in June and found it to be a convenient place from which to take the tram into town or travel to nearby cities. Our room was spacious, and staff took very good care of us. Enjoyed the meals in the dining room - very good, quantities more than sufficient, and prices very reasonable.
