I and my husband spend a lovely time and enjoyed typical German food. Worm and friendly restaurant, interesting menu and of course incredible tasty beer!
Very well made food, great service, little price!
Just perfect!

Thank Irina M

The service was bad but thats to be expected by beer halls in general I find so I wouldnt hold it against them. 22.50 for the Rindsteaks was indeed very expensive given the bad quality and 6.20 for a bottle of water is really just hard to justify for a beer hall. All of this considered i'd have given 3 stars because the atmosphere is great and its the most authentic hall Ive been to in cologne, However, Its a one star review because right as our food was served I saw a quick little black thing darting around in the corner of my eye- it was a mouse, as clear as day right by my foot. Given it was valentines day I decided to not make a scene because my girlfriend would have gone ballistic but that was just revolting. I'll never set foot in here again.

We had seen this spot on the on and off bus and it was close to one of the Christmas Markets. We got there around 5p. Several tables had 'reserved' signs on them. One of the hosts saw us looking and told us to take a table because it was actually free for another hour or so. (Moral - if not at a prime meal time, ask. They were clearly keeping it open for a dinner reservation). We ended up not eating, but just because of the time in between meals. The serve one kind of beer. So, save time on your order. They make a mark on a coaster whenever you need a refill. When your glass is empty, the servers walk around with trays of new beer and swap our your empty for the new one. DO NOT HAND THEM THE GLASS. It actually throws off their patterns. After you see, you understand. Beer was 1.80 Euro each - not bad. Pay at the end. The family who had the table reserved came up as we were preparing to leave and told us they didn't need the entire table and to please stay. German hospitality!!

If you visit Cologne, you have to go to one of the brewing houses. Malzmühle is a good choice, as it is not as packed as the brewing houses in the old town, but with the same atmosphere. Unfortunately the food wasn't really tasty - even for a brewing house - which will never be a one star restaurant.

We booked this restaurant as the start of a group trip with the South and East Museums Federation. Booking was very quick and easy via email, the food was fantastic and the waiter was amazing. We requested English menus and were served in perfect English throughout. We had an area upstairs to ourselves and everyone had a really great time. A good introduction to Cologne and to Germany!
