Really good pub which does great food, the wurst and the spaetzle were excellent. Set in the heart of the Bolkestraße it is a great central spot. We lost an entire evening/night drinking here and finally got kicked out about 1am after some good banter with the locals. Was a good atmosphere and not as busy on the Sunday night as it had been on the Saturday night (it was ridiculously busy!). There is a shop next door which sells Schlussel related souvenirs. It's well worth a look, lots of things for decorating the man cave.

Thank Steven S

This was a 2nd visit, this time for lunch. They offer a daily chef's special and this day was Reibekuchen (Potato pancakes). In other parts of Germany they are called Kartoffelpüffer. They are served with Apple Sauce (Apfelmuss) and they are delicious and filling. The ones we had here were excellent.

This is a place mostly known for the Altbier they brew here and which they have been brewing here since before the American civil war (or war between the states). Düsseldorf is home of Altbier, a rich dark tasty ale brew served in tall straight glasses. This brewery makes a fine example of this style of brew.

We were a group of five friends who wanted some real German cuisine. This place did not disappoint. They brew their own beer, which is really good and the food is awesome and with very generous portions. I had the schweinhaxe, which I recommend highly! You can also buy a sharingplatter which gives You pretty much every classical German dish. I will be impressed if You can finish all of it. Definitely worth a trip if You are in Altstadt.

A lively place with standing bar outside. Past the narrow bar are spacious eating areas serving Düsseldorf and Westphalia specialities. Signature dish is pig knuckles cooked in Schlussel Alt beer and served with sauerkraut, red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Called Bierkutscherpfanne. Pleasant, old style decor. The house brewery is located at the rear and can be seen through a glass wall.
