“Huge selection of Flammenkuchen!”

KAMIN - Das Flammkuchen Restaurant
Ranked #46 of 539 Restaurants in Mainz
Price range: US$6 - US$15
Description: We of the chimney are an announced and comfortable flaming cake restaurant, in the middle of the hearts of the Mainz Old Town. For more than 8 years we supply the inhabitants of Mainz with traditional, creative and seasonal flaming cakes creations. In 2009 the restaurant was taken over from Daniel Kayser and was formed completely anew and conceived. With the open chimney, the heart of the restaurant, one gets fast a comfortable sitting room feeling. Service comes first with us. By our young and dynamic team we form a loose and unconstrained atmosphere. Whether young or old whether baby or dog, with us is every welcome. Completely after the foreign exchange „The mix makes it!“. We place big value of regional and fresh products. Thus we have, for example, always new flaming cakes of the season. However, not only to food the chimney is liked. We offer a variety of exclusive and excellent gin, rum, vodka and Schäpsen...

The menu is several pages long, almost exclusively Flammenkuchen. For those who don't know what Flammenkuchen is, it's like a thin crust pizza topped with sour cream instead of tomato sauce. Traditionally, it is served with onions and speck (bakon) cubes, but the Kamin offers a whole selection - with and without meat. For dessert, there are sweet Flammenkuchen options, e.g. with apple slices and cinnamon.

Ca. 30 different Flammkuchen on the menu plus various types of salads and entrees.

The Flammkuchen was excellent, well priced, and it was nice to see that the place has a chimney in the middle of the room. However, it took them around 45 min to serve 4 Flammkuchens.

For Flammkuchen lovers this is paradise! You have a choice of over 30 different types!
This is in fact one of my favorite restaurants in Mainz because everyone is so nice, uncomplicated and helpful... The restaurant is very cosy with a fire in the middle of the room and a very relaxed atmosphere.
Ideal for a dinner with friends in a cold winter night!

The starter plate is the bomb
But one goes their for their gigantic variety of very delicious Flammkuchen. Prices are a little high, however the main dishes are all very good and one can hardly choose from the menu

Besides the restaurant is very romantic and you should bring your loved one to this place

Popped in here for a quick after-cinema drink but wished that we hadn't. We waited ages to be able to order and then ages for the drinks to arrive. The place wasn't even full and we didn't order anything complicated.
On a brighter note, it was fun to get a hot chocolate seved in a milk-bottle and mint tea (although we ordered ginger) served in a handled preseving jar (is this why the room smelled of pickled onions?).
