Had a great experience- this time stayed in a Level sea view room, level lounge and rooftop pool were great, nice calm quiet areas to relax and feel pampered. Quality hotel, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Nice short walk around the headland to our favourite area La Carihuela

Room tip: Have stayed in classic rooms and Level, both very comfortable with everything you need

Welcome to your home in Torremolinos was the greeting we received from many of the lovely staff members at this hotel.
This was our 7th visit to the hotel where we always book a Junior Suite.
We like our own space and this is ideal for us with our own sunbeds on our large sea facing balcony
We always request the same suite and were very pleased to find Gilberto Castro ensured were not disappointed. We also received water and macaroons as a welcome gift which went down very well with my husband ( he loves macaroons ! )
There have been many changes since we visited September 2017 which have been reported at length on here.
Now my turn !
The outside of Block B now makes it look like a new hotel --- not one that was built in 1976. Extremely smart exterior.
The new roof top pool is very good with plenty of sunbeds. I noticed there were beds available when we went up for a swim late afternoon which is very good for a hotel of this size.
Personally I will be interested to see the hotel in 2019 when Block A is also brought up to date externally and has it's pool for the Level guests only.
We recognised many of restaurant staff from previous holidays. It is a good advert for the hotel when people remain in any situation--- it shows they are happy in their work and that passes on to customers. All the staff on the door were very pleasant. One lovely waitress that comes to mind is Natalie and Chef Lisa is such a nice girl. ( I know why she is called Lisa Marie !!! )
We continue to enjoy the breakfasts with eggs prepared by Isobel G. and usually eat around 7.30 when it is relatively quiet.
Some people have had problems with only two lifts working in the completed wing. The third lift is well on the way to being converted and is probably working by now. When we left it had it's exterior altered..
Have to say we never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes.
We were in the right place at the right time obviously.
The Melia is a lovely hotel in a great situation with dedicated management from the Sub Director Oliver Perez / GEX Manager Gilberto Castro and including professional restaurant staff, housekeeping and bar staff.
We hope to return

2nd visit and would definitaly go back. Loved the roof terrace, good location within very easy reach of several good churingito's. A good 30 min walk to the puerto marina but not a bad thing for walking off the calories.

Room tip: Go for a higher room which are slightly more expensive but also provide access to the roof terrace.

Stayed in this hotel in 2015 and previously had a good stay so when looking for a week in the sun with the same friend this year we decided to revisit, more so once we had seen that the hotel has undergone major renovation since our last visit.

It takes about 15 - 20 minutes in a taxi from Malaga airport to the hotel which will cost between 20 - 30 euros. You can already see the difference when you first arrive at the hotel. It comprises of two blocks, one which has been completely done up and the other still looks quite old and tired - the hotel will look really smart once it is also done.

We arrived around 11am and although check-in isn't until 2pm they already had a room ready which we took. We had booked a newly refurbished Sea View Deluxe room and were given room 677 in the finished block. This was opposite the lift but we never had any problems with noise.

The rooms look so much more modern and cleaner now, we had 2 large very comfortable single beds, ample storage space in the wardrobe and drawers with a reasonable amount of hangers and a lovely sea and pool view from the balcony which is so much nicer to sit on now the outside of the building has been cladded. Bathroom was lovely, the new rainfall showers are fantastic and you have the option of a normal shower head if you want it. Towels were replaced if you left them on the shower floor, we changed ours every other day.

A deluxe room also gets you a kettle with tea and coffee (rare in pretty much every Spanish hotel I have ever stayed in!) although it's all set out nicely on a counter with no where anywhere near to plug it in...of course this isn't a massive issue but a plug there would be handy! Other plugs in the room also have USB points which is a real positive in this day and age of so many devices to charge but only having brought one plug adapter! Safe is also free of charge which is good as is the wifi which we found to work well in our room and all round the hotel. My only gripe with the room is the hairdryer. It's still one of those push button ones that are really hot with little power and make it a complete nightmare to dry long hair and seems to have been the only thing missed in the room upgrade!

Like other reviews have mentioned the lifts can be a bit of a pain, there we only 2 of the 3 working in our block during our stay and at busy times you sometimes had to wait a while. It's not the end of the world and to be honest we'd normally use the stairs had I not broken my foot recently but something to bear in mind if you are less mobile or very impatient!

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis as we already knew there are plenty of restaurants on the sea front, in the town and in La Carihuela which is a 10 minute amble away down the Paseo Maritimo. Breakfast is excellent value with plenty of variety to keep everyone satisfied. There's a selection of the usual hot foods - bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms etc plus an enormous continental selection including pastries, churros, meats, cheeses and even a block of fresh honey. You can even have a glass of cava if you want. We were getting to breakfast for 9ish and never had to wait to be seated and food was always being restocked - the breakfast staff work very hard to keep everything running smoothly and efficiently.

The highlight of our stay this time round was the brand new rooftop pool and bar. We were so thrilled when we booked that it would be open by the time we arrived and we really weren't disappointed. It's adults only and a completely different atmosphere to the pool downstairs which is more family orientated with activities. Up on the roof it's relaxation and a bit of luxury. The staff up there are fantastic, friendly and work tirelessly to provide waiter service to your sunbed for both food and drink. Would recommend a nice chilled Sangria de Cava in the afternoon! Should you wish you can rent out a Bali bed and you also get a towel service (at the downstairs pool) - if you want to change your towel during your stay for a fresh one it's a euro.

We spent most of our days on the roof and never once had trouble getting a sunbed at any time of day. People didn't seem to be reserving, this of course may change but it was really nice to know you could go up in the afternoon and not just look at rows of towel covered sunbeds with no occupants. Shade is sometimes at a bit of a premium up there and they could maybe do with some more umbrellas as it does get very hot. There were a few teething problems with things like the sound system which sometimes went very loud or cut out to a static noise and they played some very odd music at times but no real complaints from us.

It'll be interesting to see what they'll do with the rooftop going forward. There was a DJ up there from about 4.30pm some days trying to get a bit of an Ibiza style vibe going but it fell a bit flat and felt a bit to early in the day whilst in the evening (when everyone is allowed up) there was evening entertainment which felt a bit more like your traditional holiday entertainment where everyone sits in rows of chairs and claps along...not really for us but appealed to many of the hotel clientele. We enjoyed having a drink up there of a night too - cocktails are around 8 euros and for us they were good value given the location.

Checkout is midday but, if like us, you have a late flight you can book a time slot in room to get changed in later so you can continue enjoying the pool but not fly home covered in sun cream.

Since returning I've already been trying to work out if I can have a long weekend back at this hotel in September which I think amply demonstrates what a great time we had here. Hope to return soon!

Room tip: Higher floors have a better view but all rooms have sea view,
