El Traga manages an atmosphere that lets you forget the rest of the world outside. The staff are exceptional and non intrusive - which is a blessing when some restaurants just want through traffic. We ate casually, soaking up the atmosphere, and enjoying the escape from the madding ‘Sevilla’ crowd. The food is good, particularly the fish dish, and the wine exceptional. The steak I tried was slightly below par to be honest, and the ‘disassembled’ cheesecake was a bit far from what a cheese cake technically is, and should be called ice cream and biscuits, it was nice but never a cheesecake. I know that sounds negative, but everything came together and was a great afternoon. I would return.

Tapas is an overworked term to cover the many different styles available in Seville. El Traga is more restaurant than tapas bar although it stays faithful to the principle of sharing but it has a much smarter approach than say Rinconcillo. The menu includes two different plate sizes and we chose 8 large plates across the range of choice for our party of 6 and left it to the staff to determine the order in which they arrive. There is an English menu for those needing it. The dishes are well prepared but without sauces so if you want those ask for some help or head to the wonderful Contenedor. There are some nice inexpensive wines and coupled with the excellent service this is a good choice for a night out.

A large group (13) of friends booked a long weekend in Seville. We ate out in some lovely local tapas bars and were pleased with the quality and price of food in the city.

We had pre-booked the El Traga as a Saturday night treat. The restaurant looked modern and stylish. The service was great - the friendly and helpful waiters. BUT

Starters - Prawn Gambas was not the sizzling prawn dish but a few heavily salted prawns (4 had this)- this may have been a poor understanding of the menu or a creative twist by the chief, but it was not a nice dish. The monk fish salad was taste-less and not seasoned (3 had this) including me.
Main Meals - 2 cod arrived cold and returned & replaced with fresh. 1 steak was rare and sent back 3 times. Other steaks tasted nice but were only warm (6 had steak) / 1 steak sent back to be re-heated. and the difference in experience and taste was amazing.
Other food was OK
Mains came out when some of the group were still eating mains
Metal plates were cold which didnt help the food stay hot and same for the dishes that had the vegetables.

Yes we raised all these points at the time, in a calm and friendly manner. Staff were quick to help or return food.
At the end of the meal I calmly asked to see the manager. A waitress who could speak English came to help us and I simply pointed out the above issues and said that we were not happy and requested a discount. They offered a small amount for each steak only. I suggested that she refer again to the manager and I proposed we only pay 500 euros . (reasonable offer considering the issues) The manager appeared and said he would call the police. The staff became aggitated. They hounded one of my friends to pay up.

Such a shame We are a group of > 50s and not happy to complain.

13 of us went here on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration but 7 of us had either a tasteless starter or cold main which really wasn't up to the standard we were expecting. The staff were great but overall this wasn't a good experience. Because all the steaks were tepid we thought it was just a Spanish way of serving them but I asked the waitress who said they should be hot but by then the offer of another steak was too late. We were offered forty euros off a six hundred euro bill which was paid only when threatened with the police! I am sure that mostly things here are ok but I personally wouldn't recommend.

Excellent place to dine delicious food in a modern and friendly atmosphere. Out of our 4 nights of our staying in Seville we devoted two of them to this restaurant. Just a small but a sound detail-we booked telephonically a table for the second time, on our arriving we were pleasantly surprised that the waiter had already prepared for us the wine we choose and enjoyed in our previous visit. This made us felt as very special guests-))).
