On the phone the manager said he was fully booked, but if we showed up in person the waitress might be able to fit us in. Indeed, she had one space available, but only for their tasting menu. We said yes.
Tasting menu is not quite right, they were small courses. The amuse Bouche was a chicken croquette each. I am sure the chicken was infused with helium, it was so light. As soon as you bit through the shell, it melted in your mouth.
Next up was the vegetable course. One or two each of green bean, carrot, asparagus, red cabbage, all lightly coated with a veggie based gravy..
The fish course was sushi grade tuna, in a broth flavoured with espelette pepper. Not too hot, not too bland, just right.
The next course was light as air foam on a bed of spinach leaves.
As we were slowing down at this point the waiter suggested a 10 minute time out. We took it, with some time to savour our excellent red wine, a Rioja Predicador 2015.
The piece de resistance was a solo milo sized steak served with a mango chutney.
Then a palette cleansing sorbet followed by dessert: bits of carrot cake, an egg shaped scoop of apricot sorbet and a foamy, creamy cream coloured sauce.
The servers (3) attended to our every need most graciously.
This dinner qualifies as the best we had during our month in Spain.
