A small pension of some 6 rooms on the first floor of an apartment building in the Old Town . Easy walking distance to bars & pintxo eateries. Our room was compact & it was difficult to find a spot for both of our suitcases. However the room was spotless, with a modern bathroom and all the furnishings you need . The room fronted the street & as we are light sleepers noise from the late night revellers was an issue( despite double glazed windows)
Rate was AUD 280/night incl breakfast which was not cheap but it was San Sebastian/ high season. Also you have to walk a block away to a local cafe for the breakfast
The people who run the pension were super helpful and they could not do enough to assist their guests, despite the language differences!

We thought the Gran Bahia Bernardo was a great find. It is an odd arrangement where you go up to the first floor of what looks like in the foyer an apartment building. The rooms themselves are pretty modern and I tend to prefer old fashioned. But our room was very comfortable - we had a superior double with a fair sized bedroom, an area with ample closets and a large modern bathroom. We also had a cute small porch. We faced the front where the small street was but I found that when we closed the doors it shut out most of the noise. The location couldn't be beat - a quick walk to all the pinxtos bars and shopping and to the beach. The gentleman at the front didn't really speak English but was an excellent communicator nonetheless and very helpful in sending us to e.g. find a taxi - he was super helpful and friendly. It is true that they were not there at night but that didnt' bother me. Really my only complaint was that we were not offered the discounted breakfast that others were offered but we only spent 6 euros for two beverages and divine croissants around the corner.

A wonderful hotel, made even better by great staff especially Mariella! Rooms were basic but very comfortable and ours was huge! Located within the old town itself - if you are here for a pintxos crawl - this is the perfect place to stay as we staggered back to our room each night, completely and happily stuffed! And the price - bargain!
So happy we found it and can't recommend it highly enough.

If you look for a place in the centre of the city. Go there. The facilities are good, e.g. a good bed, a small bathroom and that's it. Is this negative. Certainly not, because you are out all day what else do you need for the night.
The rooms at the streetside are a bit noisy, because of the rumour on the street. Since you are in a city this is in my opinion acceptable.
The beds are good, the rooms are clean, although not big.For us no problem.
The location is very good, because when you step outside you are already in the hart of the city near bars, museums and the beach. All at arms length.

Situated smack bang in the old town with seconds to all the restaurants, bars, beach and pretty much everything you want in San Sebastián. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Some of the rooms are all the small side so it's better to chose a larger one and pay a bit more. We had two different rooms, the first one 5 was small but very clean and quiet. The windows are double glazed and there is air con. The other room was much larger 7 and faced the street, despite this the double glazing kept the noise out.
The internet though is not great and drops in and out, so you can really only rely on it to do basic emails every so often. There is a small reception area which has tea and coffee (1 euro) . TV - we could only find Spanish channels, however we don't watch much TV so didn't care.
Great value option if you don't spend much time in your room.
