Before reading this review, please be aware that we was only here for one afternoon/night due to our flight being cancelled and TUI putting us in this hotel. Red flags immediately came up with me as how did a hotel in the middle of their summer season have enough room capacity for a coach load (National Express size coach, fully packed) to accomodate all of us.
Here goes....
Location : In the heeart of Palma, yet as we was driving to the hotel, the area was rough, half finished developoments, closed shops, a real run down area. We then started going up and up a very windey road, like a roller coaster, no lights at all on this road, and no walkway, not that you could have walked to this hotel, this would definately be a taxi job each time you wanted to leave the hotel. At the very top of this vast hill, the coach stopped, we looked through the window and the only place we could see was this hotel, but from the outside, apart from saying hotel on the sign, you could not tell, it just looked like a run down, plain building. We were shocked to say the least....but at least we wasn't stranded at the airport.
The Hotel and Check In : The front foyer was fine, clean, tidy, they had some drink containers with lemon and lime in, but they were empty. But they did have some drink machines, 4 euros for a small bottle of water, but desperate times, in that heat, I would have paid anything. They only do rooms for 2 people, no family rooms, so our group of eleven have to have 6 rooms, one of our girls had a room to herself. We were given the key, but not told where our rooms were located. We noticed that people were hiking their suitcases down a big flight of stairs....no lift, so followed them. Down the stairs, again in some foyer but no directions to where the rooms were. A lady appeared, and asked if we were ok, I said.....how do we get to the rooms?.....follow me, she says. We then exited the foyer, walked through the bar/seating area, past the swimming pool into another foyer, where there was a lift. We eventually got to our room only to find as we opened the door, a pair of legs from the bed. They had given us a room that was already occupied. So we had to trapes back to Reception, with our luggage, up the stairs, and ask for another room. Their excuse.....we are not used to checking in so many people at one time. Our room was the next room.....original room 140, should have been 141. So off we go again. By the time we get to our room, Im knackered, sweating buckets and not happy.
Room : Basic to say the very least. There was a terrace with 2 metal chairs and a table, but becuase of the heat, you could not sit down on them, being metal they were red hot, we had to get the towel out of the shower room to sit on them. The view....the back of other peoples blocks of flats. No view.
The air condition unit was placed in the corner of the room by the patio door, so that night, although on, we could not feel it due to the air going just into that corner. If you put it on higher, it made an awful racket. There was only 1 pillow which was hard and shallow, I ended up taking the spare duvet they had in the wardrobe, folding that up and making it into a pillow with more height, gave my husband my pillow, so he had a better sleep also.
Pool : Although we didn't use the pool, it did look nice, and seemed to have plenty of sunbeds, however, not if our coach load had used it !!
Bar and food : The outside bar/seating area was lovely. Comfy chairs/settees and we ordered a club sandwich and chips each, and it was amazing, probably the best meal I had all holiday, even in our hotel we stayed at for the week. TUI had given us an evening buffet meal, but they did not start serving until 7.30pm, and we was too hungry to wait. The girls etc had a meal there and said that it was awful. Cold, and not much of a selection. Glad we had our sandwich !!. I think also this was a cashless hotel as we was told that it could either go on our room tab, or we could pay by card only, there and then.
Viewpoint : Apart from the sandwich, the viewing area was amazing. If you walked along the boardwalk at the side of the 2nd foyer, to the end, you could see all over Palma, the cathedral, to marina, the big cruise ships. It was a lovely site.
Overall : Im glad we were not stranded at the airport, and that we was given accomdation, but this hotel was classed as 3 star....I would give it a 1 star....2 at a push, only because of the sandwich and viewing area. I would not recommend this hotel at all.
Thank you for reading, again, please bear in mind this is only my opinion and we was only here for 12 hours (thank goodness).
