While staying at the HPB site El Balcon some of my party of 8 wanted to hire bikes and go riding on the mountain with a tour guide . Look no further than Gomera Cycling located in the village.
The bike hire shop is in the village of Playa de Santiago (close to the beach bar shack) and is run by Rene and Jesus. They have a fabulous selection of very well maintained bikes and you can choose the right one for you, from normal mountain bike to an electric bike (my choice!!).
They have some great itineraries to choose from and will meet and greet you prior to your excursion day so that you can try out the bikes, get the right set up of it and helmets & gloves too.
On the day of your excursion they will come and collect you from your hotel/apartment and will transport you to the top of La Gomera, ready for your descent to your chosen destination. (we chose Southern Villages and returned by Boat from Valle Grand Rey.
Jesus accompanied me and my party and was great at making any adjustments to bikes and checking that we were all OK. Our descent down through the rain forest, was partly off road and then mostly on road - but they are fantastic roads and virtually traffic free. The scenery was amazing and we stopped plenty of times to take in the magnificent views and listen to interesting info from Jesus. We stopped for a traditional cheese loaf dipped in palm honey and then again at our final destination for a drink before boarding our boat trip back to our starting point. That in itself was a great treat after concentrating on the cycle ride for 49 ish kilometres.
This is a family business that they are passionate about and their customer service is superb. Jesus even delivered us a fantastic 10 Litre white wine box from one of the islands vineyards to help us quench our thirst in the following remaining days of our holiday!
Rene and Jesus also arrange walking tours but my choice would be bike - any day. On our next visit we will ask Jesus to take us on a different ride taking in a vineyard and secret beach (for a quick swim), I cant wait!

VSV Tours is run by Valentin Vasilev and provides a top quality, personalised service with unfailing courtesy and good humour. He gave 6 of us a most enjoyable day, well balanced with a mixture of sightseeing, local culture, lunch in a lovely local restaurant, off the tourist route, and he has clearly developed a great rapport with local people who go out of their way to provide his group with a great insight into Gomera life. And his prices are very comparable with the big tour organisers but his personal service and value for money set him apart . Five stars all round.

We were recommended to visit La Gomera by a friend who stayed in Playa de Santiago when he visited in January. He warned us that there was just one supermarket and one restaurant. Now in April the resort has sprung to life with plenty of restaurants and cafes. We overlook the sea in our hotel, Pension La Gaviota, and hear the waves gently lapping the seashore. The beach is mainly stones which my feet can't stand but there are some black sand patches. My wife has been in the sea once here and felt safe as there is little tide. We have been to the top of the mighty cliffs on both sides of Santiago, with the village looking very attractive when seen from above. If we came back again we would probably stay in Playa de Santiago again.

Well...
Where do i start ?
VSV Tours has been set up by Valentin...With a brand new 8 seater minibus, air conditioned, utmost luxury. He offers personalised tours of La Gomera...His motto is " See La Gomera the easy way" and we did TWICE,on different routes. We were shown places off the general tourist track, included excellent lunches and at one of the restaurants we were treated to a display of the ancient art of Silbo whistling.
