“Lots of interesting stuff and history”

Convento Las Claras
Reviewed 23 November 2016

Chose this one by location, near center, and never regreted it !. Very freindly and informative guide/greeter lady. Many beautiful and interesting items and details in buildning. Religious artifacts of great interest too. The collection of historic artifacts and household/farming equipment was very good and informative for us .Also interesting collectioon of old toys ! We reallky like this kind of stuff. The wooden ceiling above the church room was breathtaking. So glad someone made the effort to preserve it for the future. Too bad so many steps for people who cant handle steep steps. Quaint artifacts for sale by door makes nice gifts and memory. Thank you. I-'m glad I saw this place.

Thank Karin B

This little convent just off the Gran Via is worth a visit. It has amazing treasures and houses a church with a fantastic Churriguera altar. On the ground floor are recently uncovered wall paintings dating back to the 13th century. You can go right to the top to see the original ceiling which was later covered by an 18th century one. Also on display are artefacts of various trades as well as treasures which the nuns brought in as part of their dowry. Well worth a visit.

I really liked this place, and being the only visitor meant I not only got an hour's tour, but also a Spanish lesson.

Of partcular note: 14th century frescoes and the old ceiling from before the church was re-built - I clambered up and down metal staircases to get close-ups of the old paintings.

Great guided tour to an 800 years convent that is still active. You can go up and see from upclose the original roof top. It also includes a very complete ethnographic museum.

If you have the chance ask for Carmen the keeper of the place. She was a wonderful guide explaining everything as we went along the choir, the church, the ethnographic museum. Very interesting
