DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT: The food is just normal, not a big deal. I have eaten in better places with no such as mismatch between price, quality and service. Prices are too high for the poor service and quality of the food. I do not recommend anyone to visit this restaurant because of the dishonest business practices. In May 2006, my brother, his wife, my wife and I visited this restaurant and had the worst experience ever. The menu is divided in starters and main courses. However, many starters also appear in the main dishes section of the menu. That is the trick that they use to rip you off your money. When the waiter asked us to order we told him that for now we would order the starters for now because we were waiting for other friends. My brother asked for an order of “Gambas al ajillo” (“Garlic shrimps”) priced at 9 euros. My sister-in-law, my wife and I asked for other starters priced around 9 euros each one for a total of 36 for all the entries. When we finished the starters, our friends called to say that they would not make it on time and that we should go ahead and order dinner. My brother ordered a “Lenguado” (sole fillet) priced at 9 euros, my sister-in-law, my wife and I ordered dishes around 14 euros each one. We finished our dinner and asked for the bill, but we had one of the worst surprises ever when we saw that the total was 280 euros. With drinks and everything we were expecting to pay around 140-150 euros. We requested review and they said that there was no mistake because we had two orders of “Gambas al ajillo” dinner size at a cost of 43 euros each one (instead of the starter size at 9 euros), and that the” lenguado” that my brother ordered was a special order in the back of the menu. Apparently this type of lenguado was special because it is fished by the beach and costs “46 euros” plus taxes (instead of the regular lenguado at 9 euros per order). We called the police to complain that they were charging us for something we did not order, the police said that they cannot do anything if we eat what they brought. Every restaurant in Barcelona has a government issued form to initiate a formal complaint about the restaurant. They said that only give it if we pay the full amount and that we would lose the “discount” that they were willing to give us. Finally, we ended up paying 220 euros because it was better to get the discount than to pay the full amount and initiate a complaint because we live in North America. THE OWNER IS A LAWYER AND THAT IS WHY HE HAS A SYSTEM TO GET AORUND THE LAW. Still they managed to steal around 80 euros from our pockets and for that reason KEEP OFF THIS RESTAURANT, A LA MENTA HAS BAD/DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICES! THIS IS NOT DUE TO A LANGUAGE ISSUE BECAUSE WE ARE SPANISH NATIVE SPEAKERS.
