Stayed here for 2 nights before trying a couple of nights in the ME Melia (very disappointing). For half the price, this hotel was far better in terms of service, comfort, and location! Wish I had stayed here the whole time!
Multilingual staff at reception (good English!); awesome view from the roof! Major landmarks are indicated with additional information. Pool is extremely small. Breakfast is GREAT, though it can get crowded. HUGE variety, definitely worth it. Lounge/restaurant/breakfast area is a fun place to hang out. Design is super cool---there's just no other way to describe it. It's definitely a "one-of-a-kind" experience.
Probably not a good place to stay with someone you don't know very well :) The shower is "integrated" into the room with fairly transparent glass on both sides. Wonderful "waterfall" shower head, though. Cool sliding door for bathroom/closet area. Awkward sink area with no place to put soap. Very comfortable bed, cool lighting, neat electric window curtain (good blackout drapes). GREAT toiletries provided (razor, toothbrush, etc. in addition to the norm), and the Nespresso is a great touch. The room comes with STACKS of information about Barcelona, things to do, and places to eat.
The only thing that has me confused is the difference between the "Deluxe" and "Superior" rooms. I expected my Deluxe to come with a few extra touches, like slippers and bath robes, but they were noticeably absent. So, I'm not sure what "extras" I paid for.
It is in a "unique" neighborhood, but it's very convenient to Las Ramblas (10 mins walking). I would say the neighborhood is no less safe than Las Ramblas (watch those wallets and purses!) or a typical ride on the metro. Coming from the US, I find Europe to be much safer in general. Maybe more petty thefts and vagabonds, but definitely no violent crime. That said, Barcelona is probably THE world's worst city for wallet/purse snatchers. Be smart and you'll be fine.
