Owner description: The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

Everyone knows the famous and thrilling Picasso masterpieces. But who has seen his wild and hilarious and true studies of Velasquez's Las Meninas. I was stunned by this extraordinary collection. When Picasso needed a break from the Girls, he painted a series of the Dovecote on the balcony. Amazing. They make you laugh and think and look more deeply. Observing the transformation of the German shepherd in Las Meninas is worth the price of admission. Just wandering through the four medieval palaces is like being in a time machine.

You better be of above average interested in picasso to fully enjoy a visit there. A lot of his works from his younger years and they’re pretty straight forward landscapes and portraits. Impressive for a young guy, but artistic not so impressive in my mind.
If not so interested in art, skip this one.

We are at fans and enjoyed our visit. Waited in line about 30 minutes for tickets. Suggest buying timed tickets in advance. There are certain days with guided tours. We bought an audio guide for 5 euro extra over the 12 euro admission.

This is a small museum but provides a good history of his work. Did not realize how young he was when he started.

Overall a worthwhile stop.

Walk through the tight knit medieval streets of La Ribera to the must see Museu Picasso. This is one of the most important collections of Picasso’s work with almost 4,000 works in the permanent collection. There are paintings from his art school days (1895-97), Blue period (1901-04), Pink period (1904-06) cubist (1907-20) and Neoclassical (1920-25). Keep about 3 hours in hand to enjoy the collection. Entrance fees is Eur 4 per person.
The only drawback is that they do not allow photography, but collection is good enough to capture by your eyes.
