Room booked through vacation package for three nights. Checked out after one night! Room old, outdated, holes in linens, and bathroom smelled of urine even after cleaning and spraying. Absolutely horrible. Very distant from Barcelona sites as well.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

we stayed for couple of days in aug 2014. The hotel isn't located in city center but the metro is very close. Although, we needed to take the metro once since we wanted to stay in the city center past 12 am and the metro closes. The room was clean but the two single beds put together wasn't too confortable. Washroom was nice. The breakfast was too expensive for it variety. We ate pastries around the hotel where there was local pastries or cafe in metro stations. In general we had a good stay and the hotel had a nice modern design.

Dear Amir2014,
So nice to know that you still remember your stay at the Alimara Barcelona Hotel in August 2014.
It is beautiful to know that it was good and you enjoyed the modern design of the hotel.
About the single beds together we are happy to inform that our number of double bed rooms is bigger now, so we wish you can come back soon to Barcelona and enjoy the new bedrooms also the new breakfast buffet proposal keeping the Mediterranean style of our cuisine and the new garden that we have just renovated a few months ago.

We hope to see you very soon in Barcelona!

Location of this hotel isn't too great - its away from the city centre. There are no cafes or anything interesting nearby (or even if there are, they're certainly not noticeable).

Mundet Metro station (green line) is located next to the hotel and Catalunya station (where La Ramblas is located) is 9 stations away (20 minute ride). Its the fastest way to get to downtown. Taxi fares ranges from 20-25 euros. The staff at the Metro station are extremely helpful.

Checking in was ok but the staff were very unfriendly and not helpful at all.

The room is reasonably sized with basic amenities and relatively clean. The room had a very strange smell, and because the staff were so unfriendly, we didn't dare ask them anything. There was no heating in the room, so at night it was terribly cold and uncomfortable.

The interiors of the room feel a bit tired and worn out. Bottled water is not complimentary (2 euros for a small bottle from the room bar).

Breakfast was very disappointing. The eggs were cold, there was no variety: too many sweets and sausages. Nothing special that catered for vegetarians or vegans,

I'm surprised this hotel is rated as a 5 star hotel. We paid a good deal of money for a junior suite, and with that price one would expect at least a decent breakfast and friendly, helpful, staff.
The hotel offers free internet services but the internet does not function properly which can be quite irritating.

Room Tip: I would suggest not to book a junior suite. It is very expensive and not worth the price at all.

I would not recommend this hotel. First there was no heat or air conditioning on during our stay. Our room was warm and humid so we slept with the window open. And the window has no screen. And it is very loud at all hours!!!!! A coworker was very cold in her room.

There are no places to eat around the hotel. And the restaurant doesn't open til 8 PM in the evening, a very Spanish thing. They have a bar area that has a very limited menu at hours earlier than 8.

Room service is a pizza place outside the hotel that only takes cash and there is no place to do currency exchange around.

Breakfast buffet was crowded with people and there was a line for the espresso machine.

Bed was very low to the ground, my mother in law said it made her feel like she was camping. But the bed was surprisingly comfortable.

Shower makes a mess on the floor and you only have a small little towel to clean it up.

There are no taxis around. They called one for us but we left because it never came. The metro is right next to the hotel though.

A colleague booked this hotel for one night for us to attend a service the following day. From my observations during this short time I found the area to be completely desolate. The front desk staff seemed a bit confused at check-in but were pleasant enough. Upon entering my room it felt very warm. I opened the window for some air and realized it overlooked a loud highway. I turned the air to the lowest temperature before leaving for the evening and looked forward to a more comfortable room when I returned. Unfortunately, when I returned to my room a few hours later the room was still hot and uncomfortable. When I called the front desk and asked about the temperature in the room they told me they were in the midst of switching over from Heat to Air Conditioning and the process takes a few days. Currently the air blowing was neutral air only. This was not going to work and neither would sleeping with the window open since the highway was noisy. I asked to switch to a room not facing the highway which they accommodated. When I entered the new room I opened the window immediately and realized it overlooked the same highway. I called the front desk and they offered me a third "better" room that was two floors higher than the original two rooms, however, still overlooked a highway. It was late at this point so I slept with the window wide open and not even a sheet during the night. The room was somewhat modern, a bit worn out as were the general areas of the hotel. The hallway walls looked sloppy and patched up from holes that may have been made by accident. I would not stay in this hotel again.
