Owner description: One of the most emblematic buildings of the Catalan Gothic. An outstanding church built in the XIVth century with a purity and unity of style that is very unusual in large medieval buildings. You can visit the church during the worship time or enjoy its the beauty and its secrets along the cultural time, when you are almost alone with the building and discover its secrets.

This is definitely worth a visit as a comparison to all the other amazing architecture in Barcelona. Impressive in its height and simplicity-- almost graceful.

Only saw the exterior but it was enough for us. The building is architecturally stunning an worth the visit. Very interesting.

Santa Maria del Mar is really one of the (hidden) gothic gems in the old town of Barcelona. Tucked away in the narrow streets of the gothic quarter, and located at a cozy and friendly square, with lots of nice restaurants and cafes around it, this cathedral rises up above the roofs of the surrounding buildings in all its glory. With its simple yet imposing facade, the sleek towers, and the beautiful rose window, you already get a great idea of what awaits you once you enter it: a soaringly high space, with slender pillars supporting a finely built and intricately decorated gothic vaulted ceiling. It is a place which, unlike other churches, doesn't impress with pomp and splendour, but with its elegant simplicity and unfaltering sturdiness. [A bonus for all the literature lovers: Santa Maria del Mar is the church after which Ildefonso Falcones modelled his best-selling novel "La Cathedral del Mar" ("Cathedral of the Sea").]

If you like traditional cathedral style, this is very nice, doesn't take too long to walk around and see everything

We stayed very near this Basilica many years ago during our first visit to Barcelona and I was glad to have the chance to return. I think my pictures turned out well, inside what some might picture as a gloomy Gothic Cathedral... I think that it's fantastic! Definitely worth seeing.
