“Fantastic Hotel, Location And Staff”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

This is a fantastic hotel located just around the corner from the center of Barcelona (Plaza Catalunya and the Ramblas region). The rooms are spotlessly clean and modern with nice large opening balcony doors to the street. the bathroom is really classy, with the focal point being a large open backed shower with all black slate tiles surrounding the walls. The rooms themselves have a large comfortable bed, flat screen tv's with spanish and english speaking channels. There is a safe in the room which is of great piece of mind for cash, passports etc. There is also a mini bar which is very reasonable at €2 for a 500ml bottle of water and €2.50 for coke, orange etc.

The roof top bar and seating area is really nice to just chill out after a long day out and about. I'd imagine it would be a fantastic place to be on a lovely summers evening. The Zinc bar is located just left of the front entrance and a really nice looking bar with a large piano situated in the center of the room. The price of beverages in the bar is a bit expensive, for example a mojito is €10 and a regular bacardi at €9.

The hotels location is fantastic, its literally only twenty paces from the rocafort metro stop which in turn is only three stops from Plaza Catalunya and the Rambles area. And one stop from Espanya metro stop which is where the Airport express bus stop is located.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor and never heard a sound from anyone and got three great nights of sleep

My husband and I travel each year to Spain and stay for a few nights in Barcelona. Our most recent stay at Villa Emilia was the third time in 3 years. We loved staying there and never considered any other hotel, always happy to return. However, this time we only had a brief one night stay between flights. Twenty minutes after checking out the next morning, we realized our moneybelt had been left in the room. We immediately phoned the hotel and returned to retrieve it. We were then told that the housekeeper had checked the room (not the front desk staff) and found nothing. Computer records showed she had entered the room only 2 minutes after we checked out. But the receptionist said "it couldn't be her". They refused to call the police and we lost $2,000. in Euros and other European currencies. As were we on our way to another location and needed to catch our next flight, we thought we could resolve it from a distance but we were wrong. The hotel basically refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. Very sadly, we can never stay there again or recommend that anyone else do either.

Dear Madam/Sr,

We regret that your stay was not as pleasant as what we would have liked to. But as regards to the facts you described, please let us to give you a few details.

First of all we would like to remind you that we are providing our customers a safe box in each room and we were surprised to hear that you hid your monney-belt, "under the mattress".

Then we would like to stress the honesty of our houskeeper. She works for us since the opening of this hotel and we have every confidence in her. Nonetheless we did our own investigation and found nothing.

Finally, we have never refused to call the police but we pointed out that it should be done by you, on your own initiative. As we told you then, let us remind you that you had all the time to do it directly in the police station of the airport but you didn't.

Dear Sir, for six years that we hold this hotel, we have never been afected by any intern theft.

We also recommend to TripAdvisor contributors to read the only two comments you posted in order to form their own opinion ...

Kind regards

The general impression is positive! Staff is friendly. There is a nice bar and a great terrace on the roof top. They serve a good breakfast with fresh orange juice and good coffee. The room we had was well furnished, not so small and clean. I liked it! For my taste the beds and cushions were too hard, I did not sleep so well for this reason. But this is personal taste and the reason why I only give 4 points instead of 5. The location is good, About 8 minutes walk from Plaza de Espana, about 15-20 minutes to Las Ramblas. The hotel is located on a crossing/street so there is some traffice outside the window (we kept the windows closed at night). I liked the hotel and I would therefore recommend it.

First of all, I've sometimes had trouble getting taxi drivers to locate my hotel, but there was no trouble here. The hotel also has a useful map on their site. Travel time from Terminal 1 was less than 20 minutes and cost 21 Euros

Check in was handled fairly well, the girl behind the counter kept us waiting for 3 or 4 minutes with no acknowledgement as she made several phone calls. Once she got to us it was handled fairly quickly and she apologised twice for keeping us waiting. Her English was superb, as is the case with many employees at this hotel

We were in room 29, luckily the floral aromas ended at the door. As others have noted, the hotel has a very strong and permeating floral aroma, some might find it a bit too much. The room was free of this though and was immaculately clean and set up well. The air conditioning never worked during our stay, however, though we opened the window when needed. Our view was of a roof and a wall, so the curtains stayed closed. The bed setup is two single beds pressed together, so there can be an annoying separation between the two. The pillows are comfortable, as was the mattress. The bathroom is classy although there is no door to the shower, so you can have a lot of water going on the floor if you're not careful

Service was prompt, well handled and everybody I spoke to had a much better level of English than I have of Spanish. Room service was handled promptly in a 10am-2pm window. We opted for the pre-paid breakfast which is 10 Euros instead of 14. Breakfast selection is high in quality if not in quantity. There are 3 or 4 cold cuts, salmon, cheese, cereals, a few types of bread, fruit, cakes and a DIY egg water bath. FYI, 8 minutes plus resting time for a fully cooked boiled egg....

Where the hotel really shines is the location. It's less than 100m from Rocafort Metro station which is on the most useful line, Line 1. It's only 3 stops (5 minutes) to Catalunya, the main square and Las Ramblas. Urquinaona is only one station further and that is the most convenient stop for the Palau de la Musica Catalunya. I really loved the location, on the first night we walked to Las Ramblas and it took 25 minutes, encountering a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants on the way. There is a small mini-marker across the street from the hotel but it is useful only for basics, we stocked up on water and diet coke

The Zinc bar on the ground floor was always fairly lively, with a coffee presentation from 5-7pm and live music some nights. There is also a lovely roof terrace where you can drink, although there is no actual bar up there. They have an intercom to place orders etc

I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and everybody, and would look to stay again on my next visit to Barcelona. I often travel over to watch Barcelona play (got to watch Messi score 5, which is priceless) and used to stay at Le Meridian because it was actually on Las Ramblas. I'm pleased I tried this hotel out, it's a much better overall package

Room Tip: Room 29 has no view and no air conditioning, at time of writing

We stayed at Villa Emilia at the beginning of February for 5 days. The hotel is small & personal & has been upgraded [or rebuilt?] to a very high standard.
Centrally located - all the sights are within walking distance or the metro station is only 100m away!
The staff were extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble,
The breakfast buffet was an added bonus. The evening meal menu was limited but the food was excellent & good value.
There's a lovely bar on ground floor & a roof terrace - I'm afraid it was a bit cold to use the latter during our stay but i'm sure it would be a great place to end the day when it gets warmer.
When we go back to Barcelona we will certainly be staying at the Villa Emilia!
