Firstly we were welcomed to the flat personally & although the owners father didnt speak our language (English - then again why should he?!) he managed to communicate a very warm welcome which was great.
The flat was immaculately clean and looked like the pictures apart from one small issue. Whilst we fully expected the flat to be small, it cannot rightly be described as a 'one bedroomed' flat. It is a large studio i.e. one long room with a divider for the bed area. You walk into the bed area which is located at the back of the flat (good for keeping noise down and it was quiet enough for us) and then through to the rest.
The bed area is right next to the kitchen separated by material dividers and in turn, the bathroom leads off of the kitchen so it wasn't at all suitable for any kind of self catering. Not that this is required as the location is absolutely fantastic.
The apartment is located next to the 'Mercado San Miguel'. This sells an amazing variety of tapas drinks etc and we found ourselves there most days. In addition, the major art galleries are within walking distance (20 mins walk) and the area La Latina is also in walking distance (15 mins walk) for bars and more tapas. There are also bars and restaurants along the street on which the apartment itself is located.
Noise is minor - there was some noise from studenty types we met staying in the apartment block itself but only on the Friday night and only when coming up and down the stairs. It didnt prevent us from sleeping. The street noise wasnt an issue at all.
We also had a slight issue where we got locked out of the door leading to the hallway and internal flat door. It was 1am and we realised we had not been provided with an emergency contact number. Our neighbours assisted us (very kindly) with emailing the owner who got back to us by email to say that his phone had been out of use for a couple of days. Clearly if we had been locked out for two of our four nights we booked this would have been totally unacceptable. I do think however, this is a really minor issue which could be solved very easily i.e make sure you get a contact number for emergencies!
We also found the shower turned cold after one of us had taken a shower, again not ideal but potentially this should be capable of being resolved relatively easily. In general the apartment was very well equipped with towels, hangers, iron, utensils etc
Over all, it was nice but a few minor problems however, I do think if they were resolved it would be a fantastic good value apartment .

The location is 3 minutes walk to the Sol metro and has a variety of shops to dine at, get souvenirs, and get groceries. It is a VERY busy street but the apartment has a new large window that blocks 95% of the noise outside. Since we liked to hear the sounds of Madrid (which could be until after 2am, we kept the window slightly ajar for the fresh breeze -- -- we had beautiful weather in early April).
If you travel light, the SEVEN flights of uneven steps (could be charming?) may not be an issue. But we acquired a lot more having spent a week in the costa del sol and so taking the suitcases up was a workout to say the least. Also, for a family of four (with 11 and 13 yr old kids), the apartment could be cramped but if you use it just to sleep at night, it's not a big deal. Finally, we ran out of hot water one night after ONE 10minute shower - so space your showers! Kitchen space is very small but had most of the things you need for basic living -- but it's not for a lot of cooking.

It was the perfect place to stay with my two cousins in Madrid. It was our first time visiting Madrid and the apartment was well located, closed to everything. We walked everywhere and also took the metro, which is 5 minutes away from the unit. The apartment was really clean and we loved the decoration. It was just as you see it in the pictures!
Our favorite place to have breakfast was Uvepan, and we loved an Italian restaurant called Grazie Mille.
The only thing that we didn't like was that the building didn't have an elevator (but it only bothered us the first and last day of our stay when we have to deal we our luggage).
David was great! He answered to all of my questions really fast.
I would definitely stay again in David's apartment and would recommend it to my friends.
