We took the cable car from Fonte Cearreto up to the hotel where Mussolini was held by the Italians and was "rescued" by the Germans. The hotel is faded glory and in need of some TLC but it is still worth a wander round as the history is interesting (quite well documented in English) and you can easily imagine how it was in its heyday. The views from here are wonderful and if you are a walker there are plenty of trails to follow. We were there in mid September and at the top you need ,at least, a fleece for the temperature change. Excellent views from the cable car and not expensive. Be aware that although there is a cable car every half an hour there is no car at 1.30pm (stop for lunch hour). The drive from Fonte Cerreto to Vado di Sole is really worth doing.
