My room (201) in this hotel was stunning. I never stay at hotels of this star-rating/caliber so even though I was expected to be amazed, it even exceeded that. Rather than try to describe what the room looked like, I've attached some photos. The only thing the room lacked was a view; however, the view from the outside patio overlooking Matera was beautiful. I didn't find the breakfast as expansive as the other stops on my trip through Italy but certainly I had more than enough options to choose from.

Absolute confusion, for us, finding Palazzo Gattini as our Tom Tom left us well short, wrong way in a one way lane, giving on to a elegant pedestrian area at 5pm. The bad news stopped there..... A friendly local on a small motor bike, after delivering a serve about the poor support the Rome government was delivering to his family with an ill son, led us in via a myriad of lanes to this brilliantly transformed ancient building. 7 Euros tip, he was so helpful, and a big boo to Rome, whether this bloke was programming for Tom Tom or not. We were happily there, and not to be disappointed.

Italians know good design..... and they delivered in spades in a transformation of a series of stone buildings, set with beautiful corten steel windows and doors into this very fine hotel. Service can not be faulted, rooms are spotless, a beautiful setting with magnificent views to the ancient stone caves adjacent. Great accurate recommendation to a restaurant full of locals just 3 minutes walk when the hotel's dining room was fully booked; Wonderful breakfast, too good really if you also want lunch. Its Bellissimo !

Come to Matera for its UNESCO rated historic sites; if you stay at Palazzo Gattini, you will get the best of both worlds, and
be doing a lot better than the 10th century monks who lived adjacent. Stylish modern Italian tourism at it best.

Palazzo Gattini was one of the most beautiful places we stayed at while visiting Italy. The staff was outstanding and attentive, the rooms were large and beautifully decorated and the location was perfect in the city. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Palazzo Gattini to anyone who wants to visit the charming city of Matera.
