Stayed two nights in the Cave Hotel during a motorcycle tour. Very unusual location in the oldest part of the old town. Converted cave into a hotel bedroom. Wow. Given the unique location I can forgive the fact that the cave rooms suffer from humidity and the white walls and ceilings are already staining brown and the metal fittings in the room were rusting. Such a shame. It will take some keeping up to. But I'll excuse all that. Breakfast OK, would have liked more fresh fruit. Safe didn't work in room. But location, location, location just stunning. And the hotel were so kind to let us park motorcycles in a yard they had a few hundred metres away and ship our luggage in a van. Friendly and helpful people. Everything in the city then within walking distance. Live with the few little things wrong with it and simply adore the fact you are privileged to sleep in a converted cave. Recommended. Internet superb. And free.

We loved everything about the hotel (its location, space of the room and its cleanness, the variety of the breakfast buffet, the kindness of staff) however it was unpleasant to breath inside the room because of the moist.

We stayed here for one night. We are a family of four - our kids are 15 and 17. The rooms - converted from historic sassi cave houses - are stylish and very comfortable. Open plan but with two bathrooms and plenty of room. The hotel is right in the middle of the historic area so the setting is very beautiful. It's also very convenient for exploring Matera. We had breakfast included and it was one of the best of our trip. Lovely fresh pastries/baking, fresh fruit, good tea and coffee etc. The service here was outstanding. The hotel is a little hard to get to by car! But the hotel will happily pick you up from your car and get your bags to the room. A great experience staying here.

It is actually difficult to put into words how much we enjoyed the visit to Matera and our stay at the Basiliani - everything was just perfect.
The room, The breakfast, The Staff, The location - all absolutely perfect.
The hotel is in the old part of town away from the main tourist areas and it was so quiet on an evening and yet only 5 minutes away from everything.
Nothing more to add that I would most certainly recommend this hotel and cannot wait to go back again.

This is definitely the place you wanna stay while in Matera. The hotel is located in the Sasso Caveoso neighborhood, and its spread across different unique caves, with shared reception and breakfast rooms. Each room is unique, with contemporary and stylish furnitures and amazing views of the Gravina and the old Matera just outside the entrance door. The breakfast buffet is rich and with plenty of local food, from pastry to cheese. The staff is warm and helpful, and they'll do their best to make your staying in Matera an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended.
