The hotel is efficient looking. The pool is by the front door in the sun. The breakfast area is plastic tables in the lobby. The room was a good size. The cooling is in the floor. Consequently there is no fan circulation. The rubber or plastic mattress cover made for hot sleeping. The electricity went out in the middle of the night. The location is only 600 meters from the piazza and restaurants, but it is a very steep climb back up. There almost no parking around the piazza. The parking at the hotel is easy and secured at night. The breakfast is OK and the staff tries to be helpful.

Recently returned from a trip here.

A delightful hotel with extremely helpful staff some of whom spoke English. This was once the towns telephone exchange and has been carefully converted by the present owner.

The hotel is approx 5 minutes walk from the town and is a quiet oasis away from the noise and bustle of the traffic.

Please note that if you are walking into the town the route is down a steep road with steps and although it is only about 5/ 10 minutes coming back is quite a haul up hill in 30 degree heat. If you have a car driving here is hazardous.

We had a lovely room (105) with a huge terrace which was being developed and still had workmen attending to it when we were out in the day. The rooms are charming as they have been cut from the rock with domed ceilings and there are very well appointed bathrooms.

The staff were first rate and went out of their way to help us when we managed to get a parking ticket!!!!!!

There is a car park with free parking and good wifi access.

Room Tip: All rooms are individual - all charming.

As long as you can walk roughly the kilometre distance from the hotel to Centro Storico you will be happy staying here. Easy to park the car in the hotel so safe and secure. The rooms are not large but very well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast is adequate, plenty of fresh fruit every day, and the cake and croissants are fresh.
We walked into town every night of 4 and had drinks at Hemingway Bar and then found plenty of good restaurants in that area so the walk back, whilst uphill, was ok.
No restaurant at the hotel so be prepared for the evening walk. Don't drive down as you will never get a park. Matera is incredibly busy and we visited in January!
The staff at the hotel were obliging and happy to provide advice. A good city to visit and a good hotel to stay at.

Matera is an unbelievable site. Our stay for two nights at the Ridola relais hotel was delightful. Might have enjoyed it even more if we had been willing to spend less time in the fascinating city. Best breakfast buffet with a staff willing to keep making cappuccini! The on site carpark was also a relief. Small hotel that punches way above its weight
