Went here for lunch and was not disappointed. Service was good and the food, although average was still cooked well. We had the grilled fish for two and some seafood pasta to share. Nice spot on a rooftop patio away from the busy streets. Worth a visit if you don't want to venture too far from the square.

Strengths: beautiful patio overlooking main square on second level away from crowds; need to go up side street to find it. For lunch prices not too high. Qualiy of food is really superior, every dish we had was 5 stars - tuna carpaccio salad, tomato/pine nut/mushroom salad, grilled tuna, and the lemon dessert plate (5 unqiue small desserts). Service was strong until the end.

Opportunities: Getting the bill a challenge but this is par for the course in Italy.

We dined here without a reservation, it was busy but they managed to find us a table with about a 10 minute wait.
The service was professional and more formal than most other places we are in Amalfi.
Everything we had was delicious and cooked well. A big shout out for the Nonna's pasta dish! We were given complementary arancini before our starters, and petit fours after our main (we couldn't fit in dessert). We paid around €100 for a bottle of wine, water, two starters and two oats dishes. You could spend a lot more going for the meat/fish courses.

This restaurant is on a side street and the outside tables overlook the Main Street.

We went her for lunch. The menu is extensive with some amazing seafood dishes available.

The ambience is excellent, the food of a high quality and the service good.

However; be prepared. This restaurant is expensive even by Amalfi standards.

Da Gemma is an extremely good restaurant close to the Duomo (cathedral) and its lively square. The entrance is up a little side street, and you look out over the Main Street. It serves beautiful local fish and seafood. If you are not from Italy, please think of it as being like one of the best restaurants in your area, not like your local pizzeria: an American lady at the table next said to the waiter "don't you have pizza on the menu?" (no) and, later, "I'm trying to find anything I can eat". There are about a dozen restaurants around the square serving pizza and pasta. One night I had octopus as a starter, another I had a platter of raw seafood. Both absolutely delicious in their different ways. For main courses both times I had grilled local fish. You see them laid on ice as you enter the restaurant. Beautiful wines. Excellent service in English, Italian and other European languages. A very high quality restaurant. We look forward to retuning on our next trip.
