This hotel was not as close to the Vatican as was expected from the title. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The shuttle service to the "city center" was a disappointment. The drop off location was hardly the "city center" and I had to choose my return time before even leaving the hotel which made roaming the city less carefree.

Dear kfisch4,

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us.

We are very happy to read that you loved the cleanliness of our rooms.

Regarding the location allow me to put on record that the Hotel offers a regular shuttle bus (1,50€ one way, 3€ return), greatly appreciated from all our guest staying with us. The bus runs on a regular basis to Vatican Museum & St. Peter's Basilica (nearest underground Ottaviano) in the morning (9-10-11-12) and to the heart of the city center (Trastevere) in the afternoon (16-17-19-20-21) and evening. Moreover 2 different public busses are available just at the doorstep of the hotel to reach downtown which is only 3 km far from our Hotel), or reach the nearest metro station and in 20 minutes discover all the main attractions in the heart of Rome. In addition Taxis are always readily available (taxi stand on site in our car park) and cost only 12 euros to get in to the city center.

The Crowne Plaza Rome-St. Peter’s is an urban resort featuring facilities that of course you won’t be able to find in a more central location such as gardens, 25m length swimming pool, pool bar, Spa, tennis courts, large comfortable bedrooms and extensive free parking facilities.

Moreover allow me to explain that our location is clearly and fully stated on our and any other reservation websites. We heartily recommend our guests to read it carefully to avoid unpleasant surprises.

It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back in future.

With best regards,
Davide Grilli, General Manager

The front desk staff were all helpful and pleasant. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Proximity to the Metro was most convenient for day excursions around the city. The pianist at the bar was superbly talented and added greatly to the atmosphere there and at the lobby.

Pros: Good wifi, great hotel’s restaurant, tasty breakfasts (purchasing breakfast during check-in is even more favorable than ordering it online at IHG site), swimming pool, free parking.

Cons: slightly outdated rooms, poor connection to the city center (but this is obvious when you are booking the hotel), overbooked SPA (really, there have to be a separate booking for hotel guests. My wife wanted to book some procedures on Tuesday and the closest possible free time was on Saturday), no children room/corner.

Overall: Nice 4-stars hotel with 70s spirit, but needs some renovation. Hotel guests should also have privileges to access the SPA.

My wife and I are taking a cruise out of Civitavecchia and were looking for a hotel near Rome so we could see some of the city before we departed on our cruise. My wife found the Crowne Plaza San Pietro had pretty much everything we needed in a hotel. It is not in the city centre but they have a very reasonable shuttle service for €1.5 p.p. that drops you off next to the Vatican in the morning and picks you up closer to the Colosseum (just over a Km away). The airport shuttle is €15p.p. and is not as good a deal. I saw flat rates on some cabs of €30 and you don’t have to wait for set pick-up times.
To get to the rooms you walk down a very dark corridor. I am not sure why they can not have some more lighting, it would make it seem a lot less dingy.
Our room (319) was well appointed with a refrigerator (rare in Europe), kettle and safe. Our room has two king beds (also rare) that were hard (comfortable for me but not so much for my wife) but were very low to the floor. It almost felt like I was sleeping on a mattress on the floor. One amenity I didn’t know about but was very appreciated was a complementary smart phone with unlimited data and free local and international calls. I used this extensively while touring the eternal city. A very big plus for someone who is loathe to pay for roaming charges like me. There is also free WIFI that is decently fast. Our only complaint (and it was minor) was that our room had a smoke smell in it. The rooms are posted as non smoking but you can’t stop anyone if they decide to smoke in their room. The hotel offered to move us but we were very tired when we arrived and just decided to open the balcony door and air the room out rather than pack up again to move to another room.
The hotel has a very large outdoor pool and a roman bath with large jacuzzi in the spa.
The hotel has a breakfast available either included in the room rate as ours was or for €16 (€20- €4 discount at the desk). The breakfast was an American style, rare in Europe but it was unfortunately not the best. The scrambled eggs were almost a liquid, the sausages and bacon were barely warm and the boiled potatoes were on ice. There is an excellent assortment of cold cuts and a nice havarti type cheese. Fresh fruits and pastries were also available as well as a pancake maker. It was just too bad that the hot entrées, weren’t. There is a restaurant in the hotel for dinner that is ok, that is good as there is only one restaurant nearby within walking distance. The area is not great for walking as there are not too many sidewalks and they just end along a wall on busy streets. Best to take a taxi or stay at the hotel.

All in all our stay more than met our expectations. For €113 per night including all taxes and fees, it was a economical stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the odd side face the pool area

The hotel was absolutely amazing! When we arrived in Rome we were a bit nervous on what our hotel would look like, but on arrival to the Crowne Plaza we were taken aback by of how high standard the hotel was!

Our room was absolutely superb and the staff so friendly! We went down to the hotel bar each night and relaxed listening to the grand piano playing and being served by the friendly staff.

The hotel breakfast was gorgeous and filled us up for the whole busy day ahead.

The hotel was clean, professional, luxurious and served amazing food and drink with really helpful and friendly staff!

I was so impressed that I have signed up for a membership account to stay at one of their hotels again!
