Our waiter, Marco, took excellent care of us. He ordered our vino and appetizers. House wine was smooth and dry—surprised us for a Merlot. Try it! The artichoke appetizer melted in your mouth. They make homemade pasta strozzapretti as you wait. We had Carbobara and Grecia that we absolutely loved. For dessert we got Tiramisu, chocolate mouse and torts d’ricotta d’chocolatta. Amazing.

At first glance, this place is Just Another Really Good Pasta Place in Rome, featuring the same menu as all the other Really Good Pasta Places in Rome. The rolling of the homemade pasta in the window is a tip-off that this place might be a notch above. But the thing is, this place is Way Above the other Really Good Pasta Places in Rome. In a week of being a hungry tourist, Osteria da Fortunata was easily the best in its class.

The pasta carbonara is a great place to start. The Cacio e pepe is outstanding as well. I'd say you should really try the strozzapreti pasta, though, with whatever sauce you choose, just to get the most out of the homemade pasta. Unless the gnocchi tempts is calling your name . . . Honestly, you can't go wrong.

Didn't eat so I can't rate the food, however I can rate the service as we were ignored for 10 minutes and then rudely dismissed when we tried to ask about sitting down. Both ourselves and another couple waiting decided to leave as the staff were so rude. Unfortunata.

All you could want from an evening in a Rome restaurant, great food and wine, knowledgeable staff and stressing owner running the whole thing perfectly with a string of customers waiting at the door. Difficult to beat!

This restaurant is well known both to tourists and locals. There is always a queue for this restaurant. Your experience of this place depends on the time you visit.

Pick your time carefully, avoid 8 to 9 pm. Go during the day. You must try their food because it’s fresh and delicious.

I have deducted a star because they wouldn’t even acknowledge you whilst your queuing up. We felt so unwelcome.
