Walking up to Hotel Stromboli we felt like a million dollars having just arrived after a long train and ferry journey from Athens. We just wanted some digs and peaceful night. That quickly changed after 2 minutes at reception with Mr Grumpy, who only one can assume he doesn't like guests in his palace. With my tired head I shook hands and agreed an €39 room with the extra €8 tax (in cash no receipt). I was delighted and couldn't wait to get out of the extremely dodgy lift and into the safety of my room number 207. It wasn't until I put the electric card in socket did I realise the errors of my ways. As you do, a firm look around to see what your dealing with. Ok, so the window doesn't shut properly (which the low roof and easy access is a gift for an honest man), the main light flickers non stop, there's no remote, the shower doors don't shut and leaks horrendously, the toilet seat doesn't fit, short and curly's in the bed, the decor looked like a scene from the hostel film. A bed that was donated by Guantanamo bay. Ok so what that there was a party going on upon till 4.30am out side my door. (I was to scared to turn the main light in case the party thought it was a strobe light and got the wrong impression). However. All this is very easily forgotten about as the hotel has fitted a brand new comfort 2000 hair dryer from 1969 and really takes the shine to the room. To be honest I can handle budget, cheap bad looking hotels but Hotel Stromboli! You have hands down won the award the worst hotel in the Italy.
