The rooms in this hotel are in need of refurbishment, the entrance foyer, reception and a small sitting area have obviously been recently refubished and would lead you to believe that the rest of the hotel is similar... not so. The room was clean but tiny. One plug socket for the whole room and the kettle situated where there was no plug socket. The air con was non existent, it made a noise as if something was happening, but there was no air being blown from it. It was a very old cumbersom thing high up on the ceiling, we were here week beginning 31.7.17 so temperatures as high as 41 degrees. Interestingly there were two state of the art air conditioning systems in reception and the area used for breakfast. Maybe it is important to keep your reception staff comfortably cool in a heatwave but not the guests. The staff were pleasant enough, but when asked if they could supply fans because the air con was not working they said no this is just how it is, they did offer another room but same problem with the air con!!! It was unbearably hot in the room and made for a rather unpleasant stay. Breakfast was okay and reasonably priced, however you were hard pushed to get a clean table as they were rather slow in clearing tables vacated by other guests, no other facilities at this hotel, no bar or food other than breakfast. On the plus side very close to train station and main tourist attraction however, wouldnt revisit.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else with better rooms and air con

The location is superb, short walking distance to the train station and major attractions. The facility needs maintenance (for painting, carpet, ..) I barely found one plug. The air conditioner was like a fan. The staff was contacted, a lady came to the room, very friendly, but everything remained the same. Breakfast was good. Despite this, this hotel could be an option but not during the summer.

Room seemed kind of run down. Definitely needed more electrical plugs. For some reason it always sounded like it was raining in our room even though it wasn't. Hallways smelled strongly of smoke. Staff was nice. Close to train station, main square, university.

I genuinely wanted to give this place a better rating but couldn't find enough positives to outweigh the negatives.
Although the staff members were really nice and friendly, my overall experience leaned more to the negative side.

On the positive side, as I mentioned, the staff members in general were polite and friendly. The bed and pillows were comfortable, although some parts of the bed were starting to "sink in". The overall cleanliness of the hotel was also generally good with a small exception noted below. The location is great, both close to the city centre and the train station. There are plenty of shops and places to eat in the immediate vicinity.

On the negative side, he air conditioning unit in the room was not working apart from just making a noise to give the impression that it was working, but it wasn't actually blowing cool air. This was a huge drawback due to the fact that the temperature during my stay was on average between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius.
To make matters worse, I couldn't even open a window to get fresh air because my room had no windows, only a skylight. This was by far the most negative aspect of my experience, which unfortunately persisted throughout my stay despite the fact that I reported it immediately.
Apart from the above, a few other negatives included: old carpets that were visibly worn and stained; parts of the wallpaper that were torn and peeling; the soap-holder inside the shower (or at least what looked like the place where the soap holder used to be) appears to have been broken for some time (the rust on the screws was telling) and no one cared to replace it.
There was a small desk to work on, but there was no power plug near the desk to connect a laptop or any other electronic devices.
There was a tray with cups and a kettle also placed on the desk, but again, there was no plug near the desk to actually use the kettle. There was ONE complimentary bag of tea, but no coffee available.
The place was generally clean with some exceptions. Thorough cleaning should be an expected standard in the hospitality industry and especially in areas like the bathroom and the toilet. It was particularly unpleasant to see a couple of "spots/stains" on the toilet seat that were overlooked by the cleaning staff.

In sum, although my individual experience was not good, it actually wouldn't take much effort to raise the standard of the hotel to a three or even a four star rating. Management should consider investing in some of the infrastructure and undertaking some revamps to the hotel in order to give it a fresh feel and make it more pleasant.
