Hotel Villa Steno is one of our favorite places to stay in Italy, from the friendly, gracious hospitality of owners Matteo and Carla, to the stunning views from the balcony rooms and the terrace deck, to the wonderful breakfasts and Carla’s homemade fruit preserves, and the extremely comfortable beds (the rarity of which is not to be underestimated when traveling!), this is the ideal spot for exploring the Cinque Terre and enjoying Monterosso’s beaches. We have now stayed at Hotel Villa Steno 10 times, and each time, Matteo and Carla find a way to make our visit even better than the last. They've recommended great restaurants, then reserved us the best seat in the house, provided tips for getting the most out of our hikes, especially following the closure of some of the trails after the devastating mudslides of 2011, and always make us feel at home from the first moment to the last. We can’t recommend Hotel Villa Steno highly enough.

Room tip: Request a room with a balcony if available, you won't be disappointed with the view!

This is a long overdue review. We stayed at Villa Steno earlier this year in May and have been meaning to write this review but haven’t got around to writing it. Our first visit to this lovely hotel was in 2013 and when we decided to visit Cinque Terre the second time, choosing the same hotel was a no brainer! There is no other place I would stay in Monterosso other than Villa Steno.
During our first trip we had booked a car pick up from the station but this time around we chose to walk from the station to the hotel. It’s about 15 minutes walk from the station. Although it is very near to the restaurants in the old town, it is very quiet and private.
Matteo, Carla and his team go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Check in process is quick and smooth. You are also served welcome drinks on the upper deck once you have settled in and freshened up.
The rooms are well maintained and clean. They have also installed an elevator within the hotel since our last visit. The views from the upper deck and the breakfast area are wonderful. The breakfast is a huge spread of savoury and sweets. Loved the home made cakes that they served for breakfast.
We had the sea view room with a private terrace. Every time my wife and I were tired from the day trips we would relax with a glass of wine on the terrace enjoying the views of the town and the sea.
Someday we hope to return again to this lovely town and there is no other place but Villa Steno where we will stay!

If you going to stay anywhere in Cinque Terre, you must stay at Hotel Villa Steno, Monterosso. From the moment you arrive you know this place is going to be great. On arrival we received Proseco where we had drinks on the upper deck overlooking the beach and town. The staff are fantastic, the Hotel is clean, fresh, well appointed and in a great location. The Hotel Villa Steno has its own parking and if arriving by car, is very easy to find without driving aimlessly through the township.
The owners Matteo and Carla are there to help in anyway possible and you almost feel like you are family. We received excellent tips for dining from Anna at the desk, who really knows her restaurants and food. She gave us many choices, all of which we tried and loved.
The rooms are well appointed, quiet, comfortable with quality finishes. If you are able to afford the balcony with a sea view room, you will not be disappointed. The breakfasts are brilliant with home cooked pastries, home made jams, tarts, fresh juices and a wide variety of fresh food both hot and cold. There is a laundry service on-site at reasonable rates and you are able to iron your own clothes at anytime without any cost. Be warned, there are many steps down to the village from the hotel but hey, this is Cinque Terre. There is a bar where you can have evening drinks on the balcony before dinner or head to the terrace area for sunsets drinks. The hotel has only 16 rooms so book early to avoid disappointment.
Great place to stay in Cinque Terre.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Steno in Monterosso al Mare for 3 nights at the end of October. The room was clean and tidy with a comfortable bed, functional bathroom and private balcony with a view of the ocean.

The villa is in the old town just a short walk from the beach. It is up a few sets of stairs, but if that worries you then the Cinque Terra is probably not for you. Climbing up through the lemon and orange trees to get back to our room each evening was great. We did take up the offer (suggested to us by the helpful villa staff) of having a taxi collect us from the train station as we had heavy luggage with us and for 8€ this was well worth it!

Monterosso ended up being a great place for us to base ourselves for walking the Cinque Terra tracks and exploring the 5 beautiful towns. There are plenty of restaurants, wine bars, and little stores selling wine & local produce nearby.

All of the staff at Villa Steno were lovely, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We put laundry in to be washed one evening and it was cleaned, folded & returned to us within 2 hours!

Breakfast was simple but had everything you need to start the day, the highlight for me being real coffee and fresh local tomatoes. We also ventured up to the roof top terrace one evening to watch the sun set with a drink and it was beautiful.

I would highly recommend Villa Steno to anyone - we had a really great stay here.

From the moment we arrived, my daughter and I experienced nothing but first rate treatment at Hotel Villa Steno. The evening desk attendant, Anna, arranged for taxi pick-up at the train station, which we greatly appreciated. Our room was immaculately clean and had a lovely balcony with a fabulous view. The spacious room was nicely appointed and, above all, incredibly quiet, so we enjoyed three peaceful nights of sleep. The beds and bedding were luxurious, there was ample closet space, and also a comfortable sitting area. The bathroom had a nice-sized stand up shower, and there were plenty of soft, absorbent towels. The WiFi worked well. We met the owners, Carla and Matteo, the next morning during the delicious breakfast that included a huge variety of both hot and cold foods. Carla offered me the use of a walking stick to use on the trail to Vernazza, which was another generous gesture. In the evenings, we spent time sipping wine on the balcony outside the dining room and the area above the hotel - both with wonderful views and affording the opportunity to mingle with other guests. Upon departure, the owners arranged for a taxi ride to the train station and provided complimentary water for our trip. Carla and Matteo display an obvious love of their hotel, the guests, and the city of Monterosso, which is most likely why they are so incredibly successful. We came as visitors, but left feeling like family. I would most highly recommend this hotel - it will be a delightful experience you will never forget.

Room tip: There are about 85 steps from the main street to the hotel. Would recommend a taxi to and from the train station if luggage is involved
