After great care, e mails and telephone calls we still got the room at the back. Very well appointed and recently decorated BUT over the kitchen with the usual smells, overlooking the graveyard. Lake views and a balcony but views over the roof tops. Locked out on the sun terrace twice and had to telephone to be let back in! Friendly restaurant staff and they tried to put things right. A magical romantic location. Advised that we were expecting 5 star service and they were only a2/3 star hotel. It is a wedding/function hotel and hotel bookings take second place. My car had a very comfortable 2 nights in the Regina Palace Hotel, Stresa........now there is a stunning hotel of yester-year.

You take a free boat from various places in Stresa to the tiny island. Very easy. Dining was outside on tiny pebbles. Very crowded but it was August. Service was ok but not outstanding. View was lovely overlooking the lake. We had made our dinner reservation weeks in advance. A couple with no reservation walked in after us and got a better lakeside table. Not a good start. Dinner was good but nothing was outstanding. Charming place and seemed very popular. Often said by others it's the best restaurant in Stresa. Not too sure of that.

The hotel puts on its own launch to get to the small island near Stresa on Lake Maggiore, and 5 minutes later you are there. It's a bit do it yourself with luggage until you check in but then this is a better hotel if just for one night. (There are better options on the main shoreline). The hotel provide a lovely terrace for dinner, or just drinks but do bring some mozzie spray if in the summer months. We found service was good, but we were being hosted by a local who comes here a few times, and the owner was very attentive. The rooms were old school charm, done very well but lacking the modern mod cons like a full shower. No TV was a good thing though! Wifi provided but was a bit temperamental. Overall comfy, clean and good. We left a bit early, and breakfast only starts at 8.30 as staff have to get to the island, but the were very good in getting coffee and a cake early. Aldo helpful with taxi boat. Overall the stay was really lovely, and would certainly return, but more for the meal and evening than a lengthy stay.

We stayed here in July 2017, enjoyed the fantastic view from the room and terrasse, but were not really thrilled by the food or service. Go there with light luggage only as no one bothers to help you when you arrive by boat and there are no lifts. Our dinner table was in a small corridor with a wall on one side only a few feet away. This as hotel guest is not understandable, as diners coming in by boat from outside are given tables in front of the hotel with a better view on all sides. Anyway the quality of food and presentation was also average to put it politely. For rooms that cost US $ 200,- a night and dinner at US $ 200,- for two we were expecting it to be better.

If you ever find yourself in Stresa Lake Maggiore, be sure to take a water taxi across to Isola dei Pescatori and have lunch in this idiyllic restaurant. Visiting there with local friends was one of the best lunch experiences I have ever had. Our terrace table was perfect with views across the lake with a cloudless sky above us. The service was very professional with menus quickly delivered. All the food waas exceptional. A couple of us had perch for our main course, another had the ravioli but its all good!
