A few but excellent dishes; a place full of locals: what Venice used to be many years ago.

“Lovely Lunchtime spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2011

When in Venice a visit to the Giudecca area of the city is a must. if at lunchtime La Palanca is the restaurant to head for. It has one of the best views across to the mainland anywhere in Venice and on a nice warm day is the ideal to while away an hour or two over a good lunch. The food is a mixture of pasta, risotto and tremazzani (sandwiches). It's price is good value and not expensive. We had a two pasta dishes which showcase the region really well and are fresh and filling. Along with a good glass of wine this is a lovely relaxing space, the service is friendly and attentive and proud of its Establishment. A smile goes a long way and away from the madding crowds you cannot beat Giudecca and La Palanca.

“Tasty tramezzini and friendly and efficient service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2011

If you find yourself on Guidecca around lunch time, the tramezzini at La Palanca is a splendid option for a light bite. Tramezzini are just sandwiches disguised with an Italian name, bread is just standard white bread, so it really comes down to the filling. La Palanca has a good variety in choice, and the ones we sampled were all good. In particular the mushroom one is recommended, full of flavour. Service was fast and friendly, and price very reasonable.

“A real Venetian experience - delightful food, delightful service and what a view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2011

Every time we visit Venice we make a point of going over to Giudecca Island and having a wonderful lunch at La Palanca Cafe. Andrea, the host, has one of the biggest smiles in Italy and always makes his guests welcome. A great place to eat even in the heat of the day as La Palanca Cafe is in the shade and can boast some of the best views of the Giudecca Canal and the rest of Venice. The fresh mixed fish platter deserves to be served alongside a chilled glass of Prosecco. The pasta of the day is always a little bit different from everywhere else. We love the relaxed and genuinely local feel of this place particularly when the water is gently sloshing over the edge and Andrea rushes round ensuring that everybody has a wooden box under their feet to stop them getting wet! . Our favourite destination in the whole of Venice!

“Definitely worth the wait”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2011

Slow service that you couldn't mind less. Excellent view and atmosphere with the most delicious cucina. Had a wonderful swordfish carpaccio with orange peel and a delightful seppie nere with polenta. The waiter advised us that they had just prepared 4 dolce. We had a creme de mascarpone with fragole that was wonderful. Quite worth one vaporetto stop from Zattere. Specially recommended for summer lunch when it's on the shady side of the Giudecca canal.
