It’s really brigt and gold. There are kilos of gold inside each e peace of glass. Just make sure you visit it when lights are on because it’s much more bright

My husband and I attended the 10:30 Easter High Mass at St. Mark’s Basilica. We were allowed entrance to the Basilica at 10:00 am and found seats near the main aisle. Processing in from the right altar side toward the back of church and then down the main aisle were the cross bearer, eighteen servers, eleven priests and mass presidee, Bishop Francesco Moraglia. With lots of burning incense, organ music, singing and chanting the beautiful service lasted an hour and a half. Souvenir mass guides in multiple languages and a copy of today’s homily were given to each mass participant.

Well worth getting in line as it moves fairly quickly. Some pushy Russians but that's nothing new! No bags allowed so you have to leave those at a separate entrance. What a ceiling, what detail, amazing, inspiring, unforgettable. Again another site that needs to be experienced in solitude.

We have been inside in the past so on the visit we concentrated on the exterior. Amazing statuary and details on the upper reaches of the building as well as the doors and lower walls. We spent a couple hours working our eay along the front of tge Basilica on a lovely sunny day. Consider skipping the line and the herding guides and stay with the exterior. Yes, there are guides out there also but they move on with their groups.

If you just want to visit the Basilica it's free, but if you want to go into the cambers etc, you will have to pay, This is a Church at it's best on par with S Peter's in Rome. beautiful. And you can't go in with a back pack on.
