It's a really nice hotel in a perfect location. The entrance and the lobby are quite new compared to the rest of the hotels you generally find in Venice but it's so confusing. Bar, restaurant and hotel have the same entrance and it's hard to figure out which way to go. There's also a second entrance for the Hotel and 2 sets of elevators that take you in different areas of the building. No signs whatsoever. I've been given a very small room overlooking the kitchen of a restaurant. No romantic, no Venice. The Wi-Fi signal was poor. I could have easily gotten the signal of the hotel next door. Service ok. I expected more.

Stayed a night at €410. Expected a nice room but it was rather old fashioned, stained carpet, needed to call for slippers etc... So, for that price there is much better on the market. Service is ok but not outstanding. Breakfast buffet is basic. If you have to go there with your own money, don't.

This was hard for me to rate because it wasn't worth the price at all, but nothing seemed to be worth the price when I was looking, everything was ridiculously expensive! So maybe in comparison it is worth it, I don't know.

The room was very tired looking and awkward. You needed to open the window shades to get some light in the room, but we were stuck with the chefs of the restaurant directly across the walkway from us being able to see into our room. I just can't see how they can charge what they do for what we had.

Positives - the location was fabulous. There is a water bus/vaporetto stop right outside the hotel which is excellent for the airport. The brunch was pretty good, but again not worth the cost. Fill up on the prosecco to get your money's worth :) It was great to sit outside on the terrace in the evening and have a drink overlooking Santa Maria della Salute, that was special. I would go there for a drink even if I wasn't staying there.

I would stay here again only if I had a discount on the room rate, otherwise I'd be fine with a smaller hotel amongst the tiny canals for a lower rate.

Good points:

The location is perfect - overlooking the Grand Canal at breakfast. This was the best part of the hotel, you can get lost in thought sitting and watching people come and go on the Gondola's. Surrounded by Designer shops to one side. A 30 second walk to St Mark's Square. Rooms are adequate size and comfortable Venician decor. Bar and restaurant menu good with tasty food.

Not so great points (couldn't call them bad!):

PRICE!! This hotel cost a small fortune per night (we could stay at the Four Seasons for the same price and the hotel in general is definitely not of 5 star standard). Saying this, you are paying for location. The few hotels we looked at all seemed to be expensive so we went for this from recommendation.

The bed was VERY uncomfortable to the point that both my husband and myself had aching backs the whole trip!

Breakfast is 'fine'. Nothing special, has all the necessities. But cooked menu costs extra and for the price you pay this should be included.

Overall a fantastic stay but probably due to being in Venice and using the hotel as a 'pit stop'. Not one for lounging around for a day of rest.

We stayed in Hotel Monaco for 3 nights and we were very pleased. We arrived by water taxi from Piazzale Roma and the hotel dock was conveniently located on the Grand Canal so we did not have to lift our suitcases through the crowded streets. We were met by very helpful porters from the hotel who took care of all our luggage (this was especially welcoming since we arrived on a stormy day). Check in was fast and the staff were very accommodating with our request for adjoining rooms.

The standard rooms were great by Venice standards. They were of course quite small but comfortable nonetheless. The rooms were very clean. The decor was made to look classical (very different from the modern reception area) and looked much older than the renovated hallways. I suppose this was the idea behind the furnishings so it was quite nice.

The biggest advantage of the hotel is its location. It is on the Grand Canal so the views from the dining area are wonderful and as mentioned access from taxi boats is easy. It is also within a 3-minute walk to St Mark's Square and has a Vaporetto station right in front. The area where the hotel is can get very crowded but this is unavoidable given its convenient location. That said, the hotel is good value for money.

I would highly recommend staying in Hotel Monaco.
