I have been to Venice many times but had never previously stayed in this area. For various reasons, we chose a hotel in this interesting part of Venice. Within easy reach of Piazzale Roma, the train station and the waterbus stops, I found Santa Croce to be far more attractive than I imagined. There are several pretty little churches in the vicinity and many really good restaurants and many other attractions are within walking distance.

Nice neighborhood. There are churches and other attractions, but at the same time there's a shoe store, barber shop, hardware store etc. Actual Venetians hang out in the square.

Amazing building with lovely views outside and in. It isn't as crammed with tourist as you would think. Be aware of the pushy older woman at the main entrance who has a good scam going as she pretends to be the person in charge as she takes money from people going into the building, I must of seen her make about €20 when I was there. It's free to get in and there's plenty of offerings to make a donation to the church if you wish. Definitely worth a visit.

Our hotel was within this district which was nice to be away from a lot of the crowds. It's a nice area to wander around in and see another side of Venice.
