We stayed here for a week in November 2017 and really enjoyed it. The Campo Santa Maria Formosa location is perfect; it is about 5 minutes away from both San Marco and Rialto but doesn't feel touristy, and local restaurants and cafes don't reflect inflated tourist prices. Lots of conveniences are nearby: grocery store, gelato place, snack bar, etc.
The building itself is very old, which I found quaint. Rooms are a tad tiny, but hey, its Venice, and par for the course! Bathrooms look like they have been renovated recently, and are surprisingly big. An elevator is in the process of being installed, but we managed to hump ourselves up 3 flights of stairs a couple of times a day with no fuss. If you are the sort of person that enjoys unique, funky hotels with a lot of character, you will really like this place.
The desk staff is a highlight. Very friendly and outgoing, with good recommendations for good, cheap eats. I really appreciated how attentive and nice they were to our 8-year daughter. They really seemed to get a kick out of talking to her and asking questions about the day's activities.More
