Great Location, Excellent Staff, Affordable

We stayed here as part of a Rick Steves tour in Sicily. That’s all I need to say for those familiar with Rick Steves tour company.

For those not familiar with Rick Steves’ tours, the hotel is an easy walk (often less than 10 minutes) to many tourist sites in Catania, for example the Piazza Duomo and Villa Bellini, as well as many excellent restaurants, and is only steps to Via Etnea, a major shopping boulevard for tourists.

The staff we interacted with were all polite, professional and, luckily for us since we do not speak a word of Italian, speak at least some English. Some employees - Antonio in the restaurant and the two front desk managers I talked with - speak fluent English.

The breakfast that is included is quite good. If one wishes, an American breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast is available as part of the self serve buffet. Cold cuts such as salami and cheese are available as well. There is a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and various pastries and breads. Of course, the coffee was very good: the Americano coffee always available hot from a thermos, or the espresso or cappuccino that are ordered individually. Antonio, the manager of the daily breakfast, is friendly, goes out of his way to accommodate special requests, and speaks English fluently. Only breakfast is served so one needs to get out and about for lunch and breakfast. There are plenty of good restaurants very close by. The small bar just off the hotel’s lobby has a “happy hour” daily from 7 to 9pm, with €5 cocktails.

The front desk managers are professional, polite, very competent, and speak fluent English (as well as at least several other languages). They care about their guests: the manager who called our room to inform us that the boat tour he helped us book the day before was canceled due to high winds, sounded as disappointed as we felt.

The little bar just off the lobby has a happy hour from 7 to 9pm, with €5 cocktails.

The one and only thing we didn’t enjoy was that the shower had no door. This meant the floor had to be mopped up after each shower. Our only conclusion is that this saves on the cost of glass doors. I’m joking. We know these open showers are trendy but I suppose we are too old to appreciate it.

We would happily stay there again: affordable with an unbeatable location. We miss our morning conversations with Antonio during breakfast.

This hotel is not too far from the major sites. Customer service is very good. The only problem are the rooms. They are very small and old. The rooms were very warm because we were there in that transition time when they have not yet started using the a/c but Europe is hot even in March. Opening the window is not an option due to the noise. I would say if the price is right, go for this hotel. The location is good and customer service is great.

Antonio and his staff were very accommodating for any needs we had in the bar or breakfast buffet.
Also Jacomo and Marco at the reception area were exceptional when we had requests for our room or transportation. Our room was made up each day with clean towels. Grazie Mille

The location was good for walking anywhere in Catania. The room was an ok size and was clean. Breakfast has good options.
Our room was on the ground floor with window to the courtyard so dark and we could not open the window. Friends had rooms in the front with small standing balcony, which I would have preferred. There is no outside sitting area/lounge but a pleasant modern indoor bar.

The staff were terrific, especially Antonio, the Bar Manager. By the second night, he was an old friend. Not only does he know how to mix drinks, and the varieties of wine served there, but they also come with olives, cheeses, nuts! Loved it! I am way over 200 characters!
