It is with great reluctance that we leave this tranquil haven right in the centre of the old town of Palermo.

Down a dark lane behind a large door you step into a peaceful space where every need is met. Large and spacious areas for sleeping, sitting, eating or just contemplating life await you.

Breakfast is presented in a shared common space for up to six people - cold cuts, delectable pastries and Sicilian cakes, cereals and little bread rolls along with juices, tea and coffee and fresh fruit.

The bed is large and comfortable without a sound from the street front penetrating the shutters and huge windows.

On your doorstep there is so much history, food, palaces, cathedrals and laneways to explore that you need more than the three days we had allocated for Palermo.

Do yourself a huge favour and stay here, in fact, hop on a plane and make it your destination. The host Rosa will meet you and make you most welcome and maybe even tell you a little about the 600 year history of this palace.

You have just left and I miss you! Yes, because you have also brought your "Australian sun" here with your smile, your joy of knowing and sharing! For me it is an honor to have met you! An affectionate greeting and a big hug!

One night after checking out of Palazzo del Poeta and we already wish we were back. It is absolutely an oasis of tranquility in the middle of frenetic Palermo. The owner Rosa is the perfect hostess, insisting that she wanted us to feel as if we’re in our own home. Well, it actually felt better than our own home, because every morning a young lady came to bring our breakfast, a gorgeous assortment of fruit, and fresh pastries like cannoli, croissants, and fruit tart, biscuits, and some salami and cheese. The Lavazza machine made both regular and decaf coffee, cappuccino, macchiato, and 4 other varieties. There is a large selection of tea bags if you prefer tea. And in the evening after a long day touring Palermo and eating dinner, we return to our little sanctuary to select an after dinner drink, Grappa, Jack Daniels, Bailey’s, or Zibibbo (like a light sherry), all complimentary. Also complimentary and available all day are water, both still and sparkling, lemon and orange drinks, and more cookies and biscuits.
The hotel is very new, open since February 2019, and has a beautiful design. Three bedrooms share a spacious common living area, where breakfast is served, and a library in the loft. In the mornings and evenings Rosa turns on satellite radio for soothing music. Our bedroom area was huge, maybe 30 sq meters, over 225 sq ft. The bathroom had a toilet and bidet and shower with a fantastic rain shower head. Despite being located a couple blocks off Via Roma, the neighborhood is quiet, and the windows all have heavy duty shutters. We could not hear any street noise.
The building was once occupied by the Palermo poet Giovanni Meli, and is still being renovated. The ground floor has a gallery and a wide staircase leading to the first floor. We would not have known about this hotel if our original flight to Palermo had not been canceled, and we had to book a flight 3 days earlier. Our original hotel could not accommodate us for the extra nights, but offered to book us at the Palazzo del Poeta. When did a canceled flight ever end with such great results? Almost never, but definitely in this case we are so happy to have discovered this hotel. Thank you, Rosa. Grazie, merci, danke, gracias.

Walking into Palazzo del Poeta was like walking into a dream! An old Palazzo turned into modern, luxurious accommodation. No expense was spared to save all authentic features. Obviously done with great love and also professional expertise. The personal welcome from the owner Rosa was extraordinary. A beautiful classy Sicilian lady with a heart warming smile. The only problem was leaving the room... The location is also excellent as it is bang in the heart of all the attractions so perfect for sight seeing.. must admit was happy to go back to chill and recharge... Breakfast was scrumptious. Can’t wait to go back!

When we arrived at Palermo airport, we were told that the room we had booked was not available, but that another room at another hotel would be available to us for our four day stay. Bummer! We arrived at Palazzo del Poeta through the front desk of Hotel Posta. When we were shown our new room, we were not only relieved, we were more than happy with our substitute accommodations. The room is part of a three room seclusion with a large foyer in a beautifully renovated palace. The foyer serves to make coffee or tea or to grab a small biscotto. The ceilings are high. The room dimensions generous. The shower is new, clean and efficient. The floors are all light marble. It was a beautiful, quiet, and convenient place with excellent beds. Add to this that the General Manager Rosa Di Stefano enthusiastically showed us every nook and cranny of this old building with interesting stories behind every room. The staff at the reception were extremely helpful in making suggestions and reservations. The bar in the Hotel Posta serves breakfast which we did not take and drinks in the afternoon which we enjoyed after a long day of touring. Dinner places are within a few minutes walking, as is the Teatro Massimo. What a nice place, what great sites to visit. What an overwhelming city. We had a good time. How lucky we were to wind up at this hotel. We hope to return soon. Next time we will book the room at the Palazzo del Poeta directly.

Room tip: any room is excellent.
