Mercure Hotel Palermo

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Apr 2024
On my recent trip to Palermo I stayed for several days at this hotel. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, informative and helpful. My room was fine but could use some up-dating. A nice bar and a good restaurant on the premises are certainly a plus. Around the hotel are several restaurants, small shops (water, soft drinks), a shop selling fruits and vegetables, another shop with ready made sandwiches etc., and around the corner a store selling great cheeses, lunchmeats and olives. From the hotel it is a short walk to Teatro Massimo, great clothing and shoe shops along the way. Teatro Massimo is the start of wonderful restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, sweet shops, gelato places etc. The famous Vittorio Emanuele Street is a short walk from there. The hotel's location is great! City maps are available at the front desk.

Room Tip: Many interesting sights can be reached on foot from the hotel.

Whilst there were a few positives here such as location in Palermo and my room had a nice size balcony, the negatives outweigh those. The staff attitude varied from sometimes helpful to other times just downright rude. The shower temperature interchanged from unsafely hot to extremely cold. The breakfast selection was average and overall the restaurant in the morning was quite chaotic and disorganised.

Mercure Hotel Palermo is such a great value. The hotel is modern and up to date in a great neighborhood which is accessible to all the sites. The breakfast has something for everyone and provides a good start to your day. I was very pleased with my room which had a very comfortable bed with really nice linens. Also, the soundproofing was well done as my room was quiet at night. Martina and Valeria at the front desk were so nice and very helpful. We stayed a total of 7 nights and could not have been happier.

Room tip: Hotel will help you arrange taxi from airport for 50E if you email them directly.

The hotel staff was great and gave us an upgrade and helped us by parking our car. It is very busy the area, so it was great that the hotel has a parking (20 euro per day).
We also had a second room (104) for our mother in law and our kid but it smelled terrible so we get another one at second floor (that was better).
The breakfast was okish and the coffee was good.
The hotel is near the best attractions of Palermo and this is a plus.

Room tip: Avoid the room 104. It has a bad smell.

My single room must have been over the exhaust vent for the kitchen, because the odors of frying fish, onions and other foods permeated my room. I asked for a room change, but was told there were none available. The desk sent up a guy with a bottle of perfumey smelling spray and I told him to NOT use this, so he sprayed the carpet around the outside of my door, so I now had the fried food and a chemical spray. The room was also unbearably hot and the same guy could not adjust my heat. I would have opened my window (despite the fried fish), but it was a large window that opened onto an exterior corridor with stairs, so I did not feel safe opening it. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was fine, but it was not a good night's sleep because of the heat and odor. The breakfast was fine and it was nice to have a barrista instead of the coffee machine. The hotel caters to a lot of tours. I was part of a student tour, so if I were traveling on my own, I would probably choose another place.

Great location! Easy walk to City Center and all the main attractions. Restaurants close by that are good … pizza, coffee, full meals, etc.
We stayed for 6 nights ( room was adequate, nothing fancy) and found lots to do.
Front Desk check-in with Anna was easy and she was very helpful with a city map and various suggestions.
The Breakfast was ample with lots of variety…we loved the Barista, she was awesome !!
There is a Bar which was nice for a pre-dinner or “after a long day of walking” drink!

Would recommend this Hotel to others !

One small misstep when we had dinner at the restaurant - it was very busy ( and loud ) with two tours eating dinner. Our waiter, Andrea, was very busy and I’d have to say “stressed”… he was very abrupt with us, muttering under his breath (he didn’t realize my husband had understood)….all ended up just fine, and we somewhat enjoyed our meal! If we had known there were two larger tour groups eating, we would have chosen another night at the restaurant, but reservations had already been made.
