I had read about this museum on trip advisor but it didn't appear on my to do list. We came across it quite by chance and I was pleasantly surprised. The guide book and notations were in English plus there was a dvd in English too. The subject of papyrus does seem dull but I enjoyed the visit and have left more informed.

In the museum there is a wonderful film in English that traces the history of papyrus and its production. It also shows the process that must take place to unlock the content of ancient scrolls...fascinating.

I loved seeing the instruments, brushes and the pots of ground color used for writing as well as the papyrus boats (small) used on Lake Chad to gather the plant. Visit time an hour or less.

A lovely & fascinating little museum with lots to see including papyrus boats. Of tremendous importance because of the efforts of the world renowned curator who has revolutionised the way papyrus is reconstructed and is lauded world wide for his efforts.

I had never given much thought to the origins and uses of papyrus but this little museum was fascinating. It had good exhibits and a video in English to explain much about the history of papyrus, originally brought to Sicily from Egypt and to be found growing in Fonte Aretusa in Ortigia. Watch out for old maps that show the museum located in another part of Siracusa. It moved to its present location a couple of years ago.

The history of the beginning of "pre-paper" is here in a small and excellent modern and informative museum. Extremely well thought out with excellent displays makes this a great 30 to 45 minute visit to a lovely space with a unique topic to share.
