Walking past another set of steps off Corsa Umberto and we spotted the highly polished gleaming metal sign for El Jebel hotel. On investigation we discovered a roof top restaurant with a stunning view and extensive menu. This was mid-afternoon so we reserved a table. The waitress asked which table we'd like and she noted it. When we arrived that table was gone and we were given the one next to it. The waitress arrived and was beside herself with apologies and we said it was not a problem as all tables were good, but she was mortified - just an Indiction of the excellent service to come and how important customer satisfaction is to the staff.
Every course and every dish prepared brilliantly, and presented with flourish. Even the bread was a lesson in diner care as they swiftly replaced the first bread basket with a new one as 'the first set of bread was now cold. WOW!
Wine recommendations were brilliant and the view from the open terrace dining area was absolutely magical.
Only one small thing left a bad taste. Everything was superb and at this level of doing the price matched it - which was expected, but on the bill was a €10 charge. When we asked what that was for they said it was a 'sort of tax' that every restaurant charged. When we said we hadn't been charged that anywhere else they back peddled and said it was a 'sort'of cover charge' for preparing the tables. Sad because we would easily have left a tip of that and more for exellent service and food but trying to squeeze an extra charge out of us in a restaurant of that nature was silly.
