Not a large museum but it includes some very important and quite beautiful works of art by Beato Angelico, Luca Signorelli, and some exceptionally rare 13th-century paintings, including one of the earliest images of Santa Margherita from Cortona.
The Fra Angelicos are worth the journey on their own, and there are other wonderful masterpieces in this lovely unassuming museum
Lots of interesting exhibits. The huge globe was really fascinating. Loved this beautiful stone cross, although carvings on the other side were odd......
The Diocesan Museum will not do you in. There is plenty but not too much! There is a fantastic period chapel in the lower part and the spectacular Fra Angelico Annunciation on the main floor amongst other treasures. A no-brainer.
Beautiful day. Drive from Anghiari through the mountains and forest roads. Easy parking, not so crowded as Lucca or Pisa. Short walk through some crowds along the Main Street and then the peace and tranquillity of this small museum. Hardly anyone else there. The beautiful Annunciation. Excellent digital display with wonderful zoom detail of the painting. And then our best lunch in Italy just around the corner. What's not to love about Tuscany in August?
The architecture, history and art bring me to a state of contemplation and inspiration every time I visit. The little gift shop is a great place to pick up a memento to remind me of this beautiful place.
