Owner description: Started in the 16th century by Dominican friars, this is more like a museum than a perfume shop since it stocks an awesome range of perfumes, herbal elixirs and soaps based on, of all things, vinegar.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities

The entrnce is a little hidden and looks quite small, but when you enter there are several rooms with different offers.
Creams, soap, parfume, medicine, chocolate everything is availabe and you get some hints how it was made in former times - this pharmacy is half a museum.
There is also one room on the side with wall paintings linke in a church.

If you are in the area of the train station or bus depot or in my case the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, you may as well visit this shop associated with the basilica. Amazing products, great scents but definitely a treat as the items can be pricey. But the atmosphere is special and there are some additional art work to view for free and the staff is pleasant and no aggressive selling pressure. Drop by and visit with the "belle gente" ;-)

It was definitely worth the visit. Exceptional quality; no hard sell; very welcoming of visitors. Actual address is 16 De Scala - it is quite hard to find!

But still, there is nothing like this place for gifts to take home, and they have the extra added attraction of making your luggage smell good, even the laundry! This time, in addition, I got beautiful hand towels with the Santa Maria Novella logo. Contenta.

This stunning but easy to miss shop is on Via della Scala, just a few blocks from the Firenze SMN train station. Go when it opens and have this place to yourself for a few gratifying moments, breathing in the air redolent of perfumes, history and tradition.

You don't have to buy anything, you can just walk through the rooms and admire their soaring ceilings, antique furnishings, frescoes and ornate decorations. But it is fun to buy a few soaps, candles and scented closet hangars as gifts for your friends and family back home. The soaps I bought cost about 10 euros each.

To buy, first ask for a card from one of the impeccably dressed sales clerks, then wander around the counters dedicated to one particular thing--perfumes, soaps, candles, teas, herbal remedies, cosmetics, room fragrances, etc., When you want to purchase an item, it will be noted on the card. (I liked buying soaps, which come in many different scents and are beautifully boxed with no risk of of leakage in your suitcase.) When you are finished, you go to a back room, hand over your card and they'll bring you your selections.

Yes, the sales clerks can be a bit haughty. But treat them as you would anyone with civility, courtesy and a few basic manners, such as a greeting as appropriate for the time of day (buona sera, buongiorno). And ask if you want to smell or test something, even if you know you can without permission. It's just a simple courtesy. You will receive much better service, perhaps even a smile, and you will have a lovely haute experience in one of the most beautiful stores in the world.
