Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Started in the 16th century by Dominican friars, this is more like a museum than a perfume shop since it stocks an awesome range of perfumes, herbal elixirs and soaps based on, of all things, vinegar.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities

One of the most magnificent, awe-inspiring places we visited in Florence. The architecture alone is astounding. Described as "Florence's oldest perfume store", we expected to find interesting and expensive perfumes---we found these but, there is so, so much more! Established in 1221, this is the oldest operating pharmacy in the world, featuring 800-year-old herbal recipes. There are soaps, lotions, and potions. There's also a lovely area where you can order herbal teas and chocolates. A true gem!!

This is a very old historic pharmacy which sells wonderful fragrances and homeopathic items. I love to just go there and inhale. The smells are heavenly. We have bought gift items over the years - including beautiful silk sachet packets. Prices are quite high - but worth it for the quality.

There is a tea room and a small beautiful chapel to explore.

Although you can walk to the back entrance of the pharmacy (not open to the public) from the Santa Maria Novella Church cloister, in order to reach the pharmacy entrance, you must exit the church and walk around the block. There is an elegant, but not very prominent doorway.

One of the oldest Pharmacies in the world this began selling herbal remedies grown and prepared by Dominican Friars as far back as 1221. The place is jaw-dropping in its beauty. And, you really have to look for it. It's location which seems pretty straightforward is complicated by a doorway that boasts no obvious signage. But I can assure you it is worth the visit. My wife who tries all the creams and lotions available reports that this is the finest she's ever experienced.

..and for that reason alone worth going though be aware the entrance is not obvious. I'd forgotten about this until I smelt it whilst going round the church where you can detect the smells from the cloisters. yes the prices are astronomical (10 euros for a bar of soap) but entrance is absolutely free and the interir is like nothing else. Well worth finding.
