We stayed here for three nights with our family of 5. We had two rooms. Positives: free mini bar important with kids, amazing hot breakfast included in price with amazing views, accommodating to families, close proximity to the Firenze SMN train station, close walk
To
Everywhere to include Mercato
Centrale where we ate a few times. Only
Negative was hard bed...but I was so tired each night it really did not matter.

Before you consider booking this hotel you have to know what you getting yourself into. This is not your regular contemporary hotel or a refurbished hotel from the 1980s. This is a vintage hotel that is trying to preserve some of the old world charms that are appropriate for the city of Florence. So if you want, bright, airy, big lobby, giant foyer, etc., this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a different experience that includes a taste of old world charms, then please read on.

First of, the location can't be beat. Train station across the street and metro a short hop. You can walk to everywhere from this hotel. Ponte Vecchio is about 15 minutes away if you take the straight and narrow streets. Restaurants, Domo, shopping and what have you are all about 10-15 minute walk.

The hotel staff is amazing. They are friendly and helpful at all levels ... from the front desk, bellhop, doorman, wait staff and housekeeping. Can't say enough about how that affects a hotel stay.

The rooms, hallways are dark yes ..., but that's how it was back then. Be ok with it! The rooms are large, spacious, and comfortable. Bathroom is large as well and has a separate vanity area which is nice. The tub though is really designed for soaking, so it is narrow and when you are standing to shower you do have to be careful of your footing. The bed is on the firm side. I did ask for a topper after our first night and it made the bed much more comfortable.

We had breakfast included with our stay. It is a westernized breakfast, so there is a very large selection. The restaurant is on the top floor and you had a beautiful view of the Domo on most days. Again, wait staff was amazing and the maitre'd was friendly.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend this hotel. Only suggestion would perhaps be to install handicap bars in the tub shower so folks don't have to be unsteady when they stand for their shower.

Room Tip: Higher floor would be better

Dear Gerry D.
I do not have enough words to thank you.
The best thing of you review is that you fully understood who we are and what we try to offer to our beloved guests.
Your review is the utmost reward to our constant efforts to recreate the atmosphere of this Palace that once was the dwelling of Prince Carrega.
I will make sure all our staff get your review and I do hope we will get the chance to meet you again.
And also thank you for the piece of advice on our bathtub!
Arrivederci!

This is a grand old hotel , very close to the station and all of the sights. The staff here are fantastic providing the very best of service. It’s not cheap but why should it be ? The restaurant is a treat for dinner , the food is of the highest standard and the staff are professional, polite but above all friendly . This is our second Baglioni experience and will not be our last . Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence.

Antique but too dark, smelling entrance, and the room are too hot and no possibility to change it. I have been there many times but now it will be the last. Only the breakfast is good on the top roof restaurant. Every is clean but the ambience is not anymore my style.

Dear Liliana,
I am so sorry to read your review and I do hope you will come to visit us again in the future.
We have made many changes in the last few years: from the free minibar to the kettle with complimentary coffee and tea, from the free smartphone to the complete renovation of most of the rooms and the panoramic restaurant and terrace.
And the best is yet to come! We are already working on new and more spacious rooms and also to a new hall and reception.
Unfortunately you have come when our beloved square, Piazza dell'Unità, is undergoing heavy renovation and that brings some noise and bed smell, but the good news is that the building site will be over in just a few weeks.
I hope you will accept our apologies for the nuisance but I am sure that we will make you change your mind on us if you come to stay again.
Thank you for your precious feedback.
Best Regards

We reserved four nights at the Grand Hotel Baglioni and booked a deluxe room.

On arrival at the hotel we were stunned to see that the front of the hotel overlooked a huge construction site. It’s literally everywhere. This is not the fault of the hotel. The construction site is for the new railway station that is being built.

When we entered I must say, the interior is beautiful. The reception staff were attentive and polite and apologised for the construction work outside it’s doors (complimentary bottle chianti was sent up to our room apologising for the situation at the front of the building)

Our bags were carried to our room by the porter . When we arrived at our room we couldn’t be happier. It was stylish, very clean and looked very historic. Free mini bar and a very well equipped bathroom.

We had breakfast booked for the duration of our stay. The breakfast room had stunning views across Florence. Breakfast itself lacked choice and was poor quality. Staff serving there did not appear interested and as a result we did not even attend breakfast on the last two days.

The construction site did not spoil our stay because the hotel itself is well run and very beautiful. I’m not going to mark the hotel down because of the construction site outside because it is completely out of their control. If breakfast had been up to standard I would have given 5 stars. The breakfast situation needs to be improved.

I would happily give this hotel a recommendation.

Dear Jessdog500
thank you so much for this precise and nice review. I am happy to read that you have understood the essence of Grand Hotel Baglioni, and that you understood the costruction site in front of the Hotel, hopefully they will be over by this summer.
On the other hand I feel sorry if you did not fully enjoyed our breakfast, your report will allow us to check and improve our standard of service.
I am sending my best regards.
