To see the frescos it was amazing
The walk up stairs is broken up so you dont climb all 400+ stairs at once. You get to see the frescos on 2 levels. The view from the dome is panaramic and it isn't scary! Dont worry if you are claustrophobic or afraid of heights, it isnt really a problem as there is lighting and small windows as you walk up the stairs. When you get to one of the interior dome levels, ypu are protected by a railing with glass. It really exceededy expectations!

My daughter and I decided to take the full climb up the many steps to the very top of the Duomo. It is not an easy trek, very narrow, steep and irregular steps. As you get to the narrowest and most claustrophobic passages you find out that people are also using the same passages to come back down. Take a deep breath, be patient because the view from the top is truly spectacular! You can see Florence for miles around. Take your time, take pictures and enjoy the view.

I am pregnant in 6th month, and was worried I wouldn’t manage to finish the “climbing”, but there is several stops on the way up were you get the chance to recover and get your breath back. Be aware that you have to book an entering time prior to the visit. (We had to do so two days before, because it was a lot of booked out days)

If you suffers from a big scare of highs or claustrophobia this just isn’t for you though. Me and my husband both have a problem with highs, and we barely managed to push ourselves all the way up to the top and down again, but it really was absolutely worth it! I didn’t dare to look so much at the view, but I was told it was beautiful; and the great feeling of overcoming my fear was totally worth it for me.

The climb isn’t that bad for anyone who is physically fit, but it’s about 26 flights of stairs so gets tiring when you just keep going up and up. This is the only way to see the spectacular dome interior albeit from behind plexiglass. The stairs are narrow and it’s difficult to get people going up and down at the same time so it’s worth booking an early slot to avoid the worst of the crowds. The view from the top is stunning and worth the climb. There isn’t much room up there so again worth going early. Be sure to book a time slot before you queue. So many people get turned away because they haven’t booked.

So beautiful going to the top and looking the paintings on the walls.
Little scary walking on the stairs near the top.
