We stayed at Antonia House during our recent trip to Florence. It was extremely convenient, only a few minutes walk from the train station. We were traveling with another couple and we had two of the three rooms that Antonia rents. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and each had a private bath. The rooms face the street and there was street noise. We did use travel ear plugs. The noise subsided around 11:30 each night and wasn't so bad that you couldn't sleep. We had a nice breakfast tray delivered each morning. Antonia speaks very little English. I used note cards and a phrase book to ask for things like wine glasses, plates for some cheese. She handled it fine.
For the price, location, service I don't think you can beat it. Just don't expect five stars for a two star price!

Clean basic room within easy walking distance from both the train station and the duomo. A lovely family tends to guests and provides a breakfast tray each morning. There is a grandaughter who speaks more English than her primarily Italian-speaking relatives who are more frequently around. There is some evening noise that is somewhat unavoidable due to a touristy bar down the street, but I slept just fine with travel earplugs. Excellent value.

My sister and I shared a very comfortable and clean room. The bathroom was spotless, and we both had ample clean towels. Breakfast was served to our room by the so so friendly Antonia. We had no Italian,Antonia had very few English words, but we all managed to converse at great length. I hope to someday to return to Florence, and to stay at the wonderful and central Antonias.
