There is no lift!! I repeat - no lift.
It is a long climb up, but when you get to the top - what a view!!!
There are two towers in Lucca - both give you pretty much the same view. We were told by a local that if you were to choose ONE tower - this would be the one.

Cheap to visit and no queues to get in. Very tall tower with trees growing on top. Very unusual and pretty. Quite a climb so need to be fit.

Climbing up the tower starts with solid but continues on scary stairs. Nevertheless, the view from up there is well worth the effort and the entrance fee (which is very reasonable).

Take some climbing to the top especially when you've got mobility problems like I have but it's doable. Once you get there though you great a fantastic view of Luca and the surrounding area. Well worth doing.

Tickets are combined and allow you to see the clock tower as well , I don't recall how much it was but it wasn't particularly pricey. The climb is a little tight but very easy to do for all.

Towers were thing to build if you were who's who in Lucca back in the day, and this was part of the residence of the Guinigi family who has since kindly donated it to the city of Lucca. The tower was built in 1300s so predates the rennaisance city walls.

With little in the way of other developments in the area, the views, I imagine, are still largely the same as they were in the 1300s. This must be one of the few places that can boast that. You still get an unobstructed view of the valley right up to the mountains surrounding it,

It is wonderful to sit among the oak trees and watch the sunset. Space is a little tight but enough to move around.
