My wife and I went to Italy in August for our anniversary not realizing it was the peak travel time in Europe. Rome and Positano were magnificent, but the crowds could be stifling. Even in nearby San Gimignano, the line for gelatto was obscene, but we always knew we could escape it all, have a quiet spritz by the gorgeous pool at the La Collegiata and achieve total relaxation. The grounds are manicured better than anything else I saw in Italy. The service was attentive and the room was spacious, cool and comfortable. We spent 12 days in Italy and our stay in Tuscany was our favorite, largely due to the perfection that was this hotel. We definitely hope to return again some day.

Room tip: We had that opened up to a patio set by the pool. Room #2. We loved the location.

To focus on the positives, this is a beautiful hotel, lovely pool with a stunning view. Room was very clean throughout the day and evening and in general, very relaxing as it is very quiet.

On the improvements, having come from a 5 star hotel where we held our wedding, I don't believe this is a 4 star establishment. Breakfast is repetitive with choices but the same choices everyday. No toaster which seems minimal but sometimes would add to a change and maybe knowledge of a chef being around could mean that you ask for more choices with breakfast- maybe even more fresh breakfast as we have heard positive things about the restaurant.

I personally feel that when you come to a star 4/5 establishment, some aspects and needs should be complimentary for example, water by the pool- however, paying €5-8 euros on a bottle of still water seems pricey.

On a final note, I have never been to a hotel where, upon check out, you are not allowed to relax by the pool or use the facilities once you have checked out. When we had a journey to Pisa booked much later in the day, this left us with very little options of what to do.

Further to this, we had guests coming to visit us to congratulate us on our wedding...they were not allowed to use (which we can partly understand) or even sit by the pool which seems bizarre when dogs are.

For me, it wasn't made to feel like a honeymoon even though previous reviews have stated different treatment. In some cases, we felt slightly unwelcome and more a guest in someone's home rather than paying guests. It is a shame as we were looking forward to this honeymoon but it did lack the Italian charm which we had previously encountered, especially for the price we have paid.

Our 7 day stay at Hotel Collegiata was everything we could have wanted and more! Our rooms were perfect and the service was excellent. The location was perfect for exploring Tuscany. I highly recommend staying here and plan to return there on my next trip to the area.

This hotel is situated on a hill overlooking San Gimignano and is very luxurious. Lovely pool and quick taxi ride to the town. Surrounded by wineries and olive groves. Great garden to sit in and sip on a prosecco while admiring the stunning views.
