We stayed at the Plazzo al Torrione for 2 nights in Sept '09
The owner (Vana) met us at the outside gate within 5 minutes of us phoning her.
(TIP: an italian cell phone is very handy for this)
After she met us, we followed her to a private parking outside the wall, then she shuttled us in her mini-van to the B&B.
There are 3 flights of stairs to the main floor (no elevator)
There are 3 locks from outside to your room, so the building feels very secure.
There is a central eating area for breakfast and then the rooms.
You pre-arrange your breakfast eating time.
Our room did not have a balcony (we wanted one but it wasn't available). But even so, the decor was really nice. All the rooms and the entire B&B look almost brand new and spotlessly clean. Even though brand new, the resoratiion is excellent,....so you feel like you're in an ancient building. The room had one small CRT tv with mostly Italian sat channels.
There is no WIFI
Our room seemed very sound-proof
Bathroom was nice and roomy
Water temperature and pressure was good
For the breakfast, the room is quite compact (maybe 4 or 5 tables)
Vana told us she has plans to eventually renovate the main floor area into a restaurant.
Vana's son served us breakfast (croisants, yogurts and Coffee wth hot milk). (very basic)
Previous reviewers have referred to a grumpy male owner taxiing them to the B&B. I think they are referring to Vana's son......yes, he can seem surly at times,,,,,however, letting your true emotions show seems to be very Italian, and anyway, Vana's great charm, friendliness and personality more than made up for here son's lack of.
Finally, the location is excellent!
We would stay here again without hesitation
