This is a beautiful place of spirituality. Walking in the forest and seeing how the friars must have led a life of peace with nature. It is quiet and not a tourist place.

Please understand, this is a Holy place. A meditative St. Francis spent years here in prayer and penance. It is not just a tranquil walk or a neat trail, it is a space for personal reflection in the presence of God's creation.

This place brought tears to my husband and I . It was so emotional to see the place where Saint Francis was incarcerated . This spiritual and peaceful experience definitely can change some people's values.

The ambiance was delightful and we enjoyed the old pictures of life in Assisi on the walls however the waitress we had was indifferent.
Quick and not interested in our questions.
Won't be back.

Too far to walk up or down, especially in heat, except for the very fittest, this is nevertheless a lovely place to visit. The panoramas are magnificent, and the walks through the mountain forest preserve is like something out of the Halls of the Mountain Kingdom. It's a world heritage site I had wanted to visit all my life. But a taxi ride has left it as the worst -- in fact, the only bad memory of our time in Italy.
The person at the info office in town called the cab for us, saying it would cost only 6.5 euro each, and that the driver would wait an hour to bring us back down. An hour was not nearly enough. We wish we'd waved him off and taken our chances joining someone else's car for the ride down. Would have saved us all a lot of money! Turned out the van carried seven people, all of whom should have paid 6.5 euro each. At the end, the driver wanted 50 euro!! We fought it out, and it was awful. He had little English and we had little Italian, but damned it we were going to pay 50 Euro for a ten minute cab ride up and back! Ended up paying him 24, which was double what we expected and half what he wanted. Saint Francis would have been appalled. Shame on the people at the Info office for not clarifying.
